Our robotics team has 5 toughbooks with model number 30caqazbm.

After much playing I was able to get 2 of the touchscreens to work.

When I had the screen cover off, sometimes they would start working for a moment and then quit again.

Shortly after, one of the ones I had gotten to work stopped working, and then a bit later the other one stopped.

I have tried updating and downgrading the bios, updating and downgrading the tscreen drivers, and taking all of the backs off and jiggling the digitizer cables.

What is strange is that if I turn the wires to the digitizer upside down, then all 5 touchscreens respond. The mouse moves crazily but they are definitely responding to touch. When I flip the cable back over to the correct position I get nothing.

That leads me to believe that everything is working on the software/bios/driver side, a cable is just loose.

Are there any other cables than the digitizer to touchscreen cable that could be loose?

    Thanks so much!

Go and buy 3 used CF-30K's and the recovery disc, switch everything over and recover them and you should have $400-450 invested with no more touchscreen problems.

Then sell the mk1's for $80 each and its a done deal cheap. Those early screens are not worth fixing with CF-30 prices right now.

It may seam to be working but I bet if you tried to calibrate the touchscreen it would fail...which means the touch is failing. This was a big problem with the CF-30C (MK1).

What bios and ec numbers are you showing?

Seems strange to have that many showing problems.

Touch Panels are to be had for $50/shipped (from China) Immediate fix......if bios and ec match the OS.

Next time you tear one apart, check for continuity between 1 and 3 ...also 2 and 4 on the FPC cable that plugs into the TSPCB. An open circuit equals a bad touch panel.
