I have a CF-30EAq04BM which as I understand it is a MKI with the SD card slot, which makes memory upgrade a little more difficult than other CF-30s. The info I have found on the web so far shows taking that back cover off and removing the SD card slot. In the process of removing the SD card slot they disconnect the cmos for some reason, but I cannot tell from the video why. From what I can see, the cmos can remain connected and the card slot removed. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

i imagine that it is to help prevent damage in the event a screw is dropped or a piece of metal is banged around the innards .

SD Card or Smartcard reader? Smartcard reader is in the way of the ram.
This sounds to me like the smartcard.
1. Remove 6 screws. Four black two silver.
2. Do not unlatch/disconnect the 2- 40? element cables. They are flimsy....and if you are not extremely careful they will de-laminate at the ends. I wouldn't say anything if it only happened to me once.
If you pull the reader then you will need something to plug the hole. I just remove the screws and lift the card reader out of the way.....then slip the ram into place. Then re-install the smart-card reader screws.
I can't remember if I ever disconnected the cmos battery but I for sure pull the main battery.Shawn likes this. -
Simpler way is a nano usb if you are running Windows 7, run it as readyboost and it will allocate a section for ram. It fits in the far right slot in back and the door will close.

in addition ...
by powering down the cmos , there is less of a chance of corruption of the bios and causing irreparable damage to the bios/cmos chips .
in essence , the drop of a screw or a slip of a screwdriver can brick a machine ... the only recovery might be replacement of the bios chip .
don't forget the wrist/grounding strap to put yourself and the machine at the same potential to help avoid zapping any of the cmos devices in the machine .
*something* about an ounce of prevention ... -
