Okay, I'm a sucker for projects, so after I found the SSD 64GB part number (Transcend TS64GSSD10-M) in one of the other threads, I located and ordered one ($75 if you gotta know).

    Sooo....

No problem changing it out in the caddy, made sure the ZIF latch was secure. But when I tried to reinstall the OS, I got a dskpart error??? I ran list disk in diskpart and it doesn't even see it.

So am I missing a step, or do I have a bad SSD? I put the original back in and it's fine, of course.

    Update:

After realizing the SSD wasn't even visible to the PC at the BIOS level I arranged to return it. Hopefully the next one does better.

Received the replacement, same issue, SSD not seen in the BIOS. If this is a basic hardware compatibility issue, everyone will know not to do what I did when I'm done! I've emailed Transcend and Panasonic, but if anyone has a related experience I would love to hear it. Otherwise, this is kind of like talking to myself...

Yes. But it appears the issue is deeper than that. I got a response from Panasonic Support:

CF-WSDU1031 - 32GB SSD kit for CF-U1 is the part number you will need to purchase.

    So I asked directly:
Thanks for the information. Just to be specific then are you saying that:
    1. There is not a 64GB option for this model?
    2. The Transcend TS64GSSD10-M is not a compatible part?

    And the answer:
Yes, to both questions. The unit only support 32GB SSD

So it looks like I will be returning the Transcend SSD and visiting eBay with the CF-U1.

This project has not been my best.
I put the original SSD in...and now it appears to be corrupt. BIOS sees it as 634GB! (Obviously it isn't reading it correctly).

sounds crazy. but I was thinking of an BIOS manipulation...and I want to know, what exactly is the name of the PATA controller, because maybe there is a restrication in the controler or not...

I think you're a little ahead of me in your technical skills. But if you really want to examine it up close:

    I'm done with this project.

I have done tons of 64gb upgrades on the MK1 U1's. The first one I did I inserted the ribbon cable
backwards and toasted the SSD it also read something like 650gb!

The darn ribbon is way small and you just have be sure you seat it correctly then you should have no problems.

Glad to hear you got it up and running!

Whats your next step a MK2 mainboard swap???
