For any of you out there that have worked with the M34's, how was wifi incorporated in the 1.0Ghz model? Did they use an additional board and if so how was it interfaced with the mobo? I am still trying to obtain a 1.0Ghz but haven't yet. By any chance has anyone incorporated wifi into an M34 without using a PCMCIA or USB device?

ST..The wi-fi of the cf-m34(1.0ghz) is on its mini pci slot. The NIC/ethernet is embedded on mbo. as well as the modem. The only difference is that the modem is detacheable from the mbo. with a connector slot.

    Hi ST,
Had to open up my CF-M34(mk7) to install a SSD, so I took the opportunity to take the attached pics. As Ohlip said, the LAN circuitry is integrated on the mobo. The daughter card next to the WiFi card is the dial-up modem card.
I use an Intel 2200 (partly covered by the black insulating patch) in place of the 2100. The other pic shows the antenna on the lid (cover removed)
A picture is worth a thousand words - hope it helps !

    hi. i've seen cf-m34 (?mk3?) 700mhz with wifi.
it was with 2 miniPCI slots. in first slot was NIC\Ethernet+Modem like usual, and in second was wifi-card.
card with 2 miniPCI slots was at the same place as a card with one slot. it was just longer.

What model/capacity SSD did you use on your M34?

Transcend 32GB SLC. Expensive but super fast and I picked up 30 plus minutes battery runtime. I use Vista but if you run XP make sure you align partitions. Disable disk defrag, index search, disk cache, superfetch and system restore.

I have to ask: Do CF-M34s have the capability for an internal optical drive? I know Rick sold a CF-17 on eBay 2 months ago which had a CD-ROM drive (this was likely a rare option), but I can't find out if CF-M34s had an internal CD-ROM drive available

CF-M34 Never have a internal cd drive and CF-17 is the same as CF-M34. There was a external cd drive for it.

There mite of been a dockin station that had the cd drive built in.

@ gn7p71 - The M34 & 17 shares the same docking replicator/station but it's not fitted with built-in CDD. Has a USB port for that purpose. The 18s are not equipped with CDD either.

What did you use to cover the pair of antennae? An OEM panny part?? I routed the wire, internal Intel mini-pci to that flexi-swing-up antenna, but reception sucks. IIRC, that antenna was not meant for wifi signals. Reverted to Linksys PCMCIA instead.

My only gripes with the M34; I don't have any good batteries that go beyond 30 mins and my eyesight aren't what they used to be. Still a zippy unit with Win2k.... plugged to the mains!! :D

So on the 700MHz model, does it have a single mini-PCI slot inside with a modem/ethernet combo or is the ethernet onboard and it just has a mini-PCI modem?

Antenna cover is the black plastic piece shown detached. I have the CF-M34C (mk 7) OEM wifi with lid mounted antenna. You could try using a pair of 'flag' antennae under the plastic palm rests or use Panasonic's OEM method for the mk 5 and 6 (Cisco 801 b) wifi.

My 700mhz had only 1 mini-pci slot, to add wi-fi I removed the network card and swapped out for the wi-fi card

Very cool! I wonder what the reasoning for that added slot was?

    hello all,

recently got my hands on a cf-m34 i'm trying to find out what i can mod on the beast, the units a cf-m34jxxxxx gprs, i want to add a wifi and ditch the modem is this feasible and also look at the possibility of the mainboard upgrade as i beleive someone has already swapped out the 400mhz mb for a 700mhz with no issues.
can you shed any light on whats feasible and what version mine is? ie mk3/2??
also has anyone ever run linux stable on the unit and also run a CF card in place of the HD?
    thanks
