Jim... You can always go here...
http://config.toughbook.com/
Type in the complete model number and it will tell you how it was originally based and priced. (MSRP, not actual sale price)
The price almost sounds too good to be true. Unless you are buying this from a reliable, trusted source... I would call 800-LAPTOP5 and give them the serial number. They can tell you if it is "hot" and what the remaining warranty is... If any. -
did that last night the seller bought it for deployment to Iraq and never got deployed he has had it out of the box only for the last 3 months he has all the receipts for when it was purchased new approximately 6 months ago and stored until he came back from camp, I am definitely going to buy it, just wondering if anyone here has used one and can tell me any thing about it from a owners standpoint
thanks ahead of time

Im currently a CF-74 proud owner! Since I got mine last year I have fallen in love. The thing is a beast, and runs all operating systems with ease. I currently have the C2D 7300 with 4GB RAM, 80 GB HD, fingerprint reader, plus more, and running Windows 7 RTM build 7600. The current config i priced out on that site is in the area of $4500-$5000! If you got the chance to get one for 800 and you can spare the money, go for it. I have not been disappointed, and it seems like it will last forever the way it is built. It's a toughbook, thats all that needs to be said. If you have any other specific questions feel free to post them, and i'll let you know what i think.

I go mine for $700 with very few hours (560 and I have had it for almost a year, it is the MK3 2.0 Ghz model) and I love it! Be sure to check the slot on either side to see if there is a stylus for thetouch screen. If not, they run about $15-20 with shipping for the OEM Panasonic.

You will really like the cf-74
We don’t talk to much about it here ,but several forum members own them
I have two mk-1’s, and I think they are good reliable laptops
Here is a small thread with some info (its amd old posting so the hardware in your model will be different)

I got super super lucky with mine. Found a friend of a friend that had a laptop that was "broken" (to him), and wanted to trade for an amplifier for an car audio setup.
I had an Alpine MRD-1005 nice amp that was barley used, and offered it to him. When I asked what kind of laptop it was, he said "Panasonic". I thought "Panasonic"?? Never heard of it. So with him meeting me the next morning, i did some research and got the idea of what he was possibly offering. I thought it was too good to be true, or a beat up old one...
The next morning he brought me the laptop and said "when i move the laptop I hear a banging noise", the hard drive was not secured in the caddy and was just set in there....LOL. Also, a nice Case Logic laptop bag, and a power cord with a Lind car converter with all attachments. The computer would not boot, and all I did was reformat the hard drive (after using the supplied foam insulation to secure it), and Presto....it worked. Still had 2+ years on the warranty and the only flaw was a single dead pixel on the screen. Called Panasonic, and was told that it was legit and was able to register it.
The amp I traded for it was $550 and I was then the new owner of a nearly brand new Toughbook (i think it had less than 700 hours on it). Since then i have had many offers on it, but not sure what I could sell it for if I wanted to. Anyone know what it "could" go for if I were to sell it? Is there a way to appraise it, or get an aprox. re-sell value? Don't think I could ever part with it, but it would be nice to know what it's worth.
Good luck on the purchase, and when you get it this weekend, let us know how you like it or if you have any questions feel free. Even though I'm a "newbie", I can answer anything you might need. -
Sure, the best way I have found is to ebay search it. That will give you a good ball park figure.

Picked it up last night, gotta say its really something it is a mk3 with a t7300 bt and abgn wireless the only spec different is that it has 4 gig of ram
according to the bios the notebook has "0" hours of use is this resetable or should I beleive it

I sold my CF-74 to Doobi, but when I had it I liked it, pretty fast semi-rugged computer. I really didn't have much to complain about, I just ended up going the fully rugged route because of my line of work.

The BIOS hours should be correct! -
Cool your word is considered gospel now time to change my sig

Well... Not to say that there may not be a way to get around it.
I would let the general wear of the laptop be your guide.
Very similar to someone selling a car with way worn tires, split seats and a lot of wear on the brake and gas pedal... And they claim it only has 5k miles on it. Maybe 105K.... There may be a way to edit the BIOS but I doubt a newish looking laptop would have that done. -
Thats kinda what i thought there is not a speck of weat anywhere including the feet on the bottom so Im gonna call it an open box bargain
