Just wanted to pass this along. May be old news to some, but you can hold the ctrl key down and push the - and + key to change your screen Resolution. Pretty handy for us old people.

Works on windows XP and Windows 7

So where do you push this CTRL and + or - then? Does it work if the desktop has focus?
I always used to use setres.exe and have shortcuts, back when I used wingdoze.

It doesn't seem to change the resolution of the display adapter. It seems to only be a zoom in and out within explorer. At least that is how it works for me. Still a good trick I didn't know existed.

an fyi. if i'm withing Firefox or IE it works... it just zooms...

but that is the same as holding down control + rolling the mouse button too (I have a mouse hooked up all day long while at work)...

ALSO, if I do that (with the mouse) while at the desktop the icons just get bigger and smaller

I had forgotten about this one. Thanks!

Another one that I like, only works on W7, is when you have 2 windows open at the same time and your having to look at both back and forth. Just hit the Windows Key and the right or left arrow with your cursor on a Window. It splits each page in half.

There is a whole slew of them on this page.

When I read this the other day I was aware of this shortcut in IE/Firefox, but not for the Windows Desktop. I of course tried it and it failed to work, then I realized the problem.

The world seems divided into to kinds of people, those that will let an application like IE maximize on their desktop and those that will not. For the first it appears to change the resolution of the computer... :D

Shoot, I still wonder why sometimes when I open IE it is reduced and then sometimes it is full size!!!

Usually, it depends on the "size" state you last left the Window in ("Maximize" or "Restore") and/or the "Properties" of the particular Icon you use to state `Internet Exploder' ;) ; (Run: `Minimized', `Normal Window', `Maximized').

This works in other browsers as well, e.g., Firefox and Chrome. Works on desktop for me in Win 7 and Vista, haven't tried in XP yet.
As Az noted works with mouse (scroll wheel) as well.
