    Playing around on eBay again, I came across numerous Gobi cards going for $139.99 with free shipping.

    Title = PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK CF-19/30 UNDP-1 3G WWAN Card+GPS

    Check eBay items #290409342462, 290409342611 and 290409342042

    I am tempted myself but they wouldn't do me much good here.

    Would that unit be compatible to replace a factory installed AT&T cellular module in a CF-30 that has factory installed GPS ?

    Or would it's GPS function interfere with the internal GPS module on the CF-30 ?

    Sorry guys, I am not an expert on these cards. I just want one for the broad spread of service providers it can be used with. I don't have answers about the GPS portion.

    More info here: http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/wireless-gobi-modem.asp

    Also do a search for Qualcomm Gobi 2000.

    I have seen other listings for this card going for almost $500 with install.

    My understanding is the GPS module in the CF-30 is separate from the cellular module. The GPS module is under the keyboard area and is not normally user accessible. The cellular module is mounted to the left side of the keyboard and can be removed easily with 2 screws.

    The CF-29 used a sled that both the GPS and cellular module mount into on the left side of the keyboard. This is different than for the CF-30.

    So, I don't know if the unit they are showing is correct, or compatible with the CF-30 - I e-mailed the seller, so I'll see what he says...I'm just nervous 'cause they are based in China, and you don't always get a "real" part... :eek:

    It could be an A-GPS chipset.

    They're commonly found in cellular devices e.g. smart-phones etc.

    Assisted GPS still uses a 'real' gps reciever, just backed up with radio triangulation to generate a quick fix while the main unit updates its position/almanac so still require a GPS antenna
