    Who?

Seriously though, I must say the time and effort to polish the lid is impressive. I have polished porous metals to restore a mirror finish and it is not a 5 minute task. Let alone do it on something that wasn't polished in the first place.
Personally, if I was going to do something like that, I would polish the whole lid. In for a penny, in for a pound.
Every time I polished a Hurst gear shift handle, for example, the shine never lasted. It always tarnished. I don't know how well/long the magnesium will hold the shine. Even clear coating them didn't really help much.

I'm with Cap'n... it's polished; and by the looks, done on a bench grinder. And the rubber stair tread highlights are a dead giveaway - it is indeed the ClinicalBrad.

    smeesh.

I guess whatever works to make a buck... a guy's gotta eat.

I just hope Stanley/Proto Tools doesn't catch wind of it; they own the Black Hawk trademark he's infringing on THIS TIME...

The interesting part is the prices he's getting. They're going for short money, certainly not enough to justify all the work.

A cheap attempt at bettering my " shag mod," to be sure. If you want a custom Toughbook, nothing beats that! ;)

I'm not sure its actually plated. Looks like he might have just polished it and maybe clear coated. That's really going to look great when the coating starts to fail

Trust me..it's polished. It is not chrome plating. I re-polished 4 "mag" wheels for my truck and the finish looked just like that. You can see the marks from where he polished it.
Upon closer examination, I don't think they are clear coated. The clear coat would hide the buffer marks and would smooth out the standard texture finished sections.
Cost to chrome plate the whole lid would scare you. My very wild guess would be $200.00. The chrome plating itself is not expensive, but the prep work is. From what I understand, it needs to be polished to perfection, then copper plated, nickle plated, then finally chrome plated. Or something similar.
You need to be careful of the thickness of the chrome plate or you won't be able to re assemble it.
If you keep it out of the weather, the polish job may last quite a while. Especially if you rub it out once in a while with some rubbing compound.
