Hello,new user here.
Had my cf-28 for a few weeks and love it, I just need sme help configuring my cisco card to work with my d-link wireless access point. The wap is a DI524, and i am running windows 2000. It looks like I finally have all of the drivers and associated programs for the cisco, but in the ACU program, it says that te card is "unassociated" My old machine had to go away and this is my new workhorse. The lack of a wireless conection is seriousely affecting my ability to keep up with my professors.

TDIBen... welcome to the forum.
1. What is the exact model number of your laptop? (CF-28XXXXXXX)
2. Did you install the card yourself or was it there already?
3. Where did you get the drivers and did you match them with the exact model number?
4. What antenna are you using? Stock Wifi on top of LCD?
Please let us know... We can't have you flunking out... You may be running this country one day!
EDIT -Have you tried the tutorial/guide located HERE?
But you need to make sure your wifi card works first!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I think cisco 350 doesn't support WPA correct me if I'm wrong but that is what I know. Your best bet is to mod....change it to a mini pci card type card on one of the mini pci slot and phase out that cisco card. Just keep reading on how to change your wi-fi setup topic.

I totally agreed that the Cisco Card shouldn't be used. Modding and putting in a Wireless G is the way to go or use a PCMCIA card. There has been issues with Laptops using a Separate Vendor supplied WPA Security Layer. I know.............had the issue with my CF-28. Disabled the layer and connection was great from then on. No impact on Security Key or WPA usage.

Guys... I think he is talking about a WAP (wireless access point) Not WPA or WEP security. He needs to install drivers.
But it all comes down to... We can't help him if he never comes back! -
Hey guys, thanks for the encouragement, I understand that the cisco may not be the best, but for now in the interest of time......
Machine model # CF28SWJG8DM
Yes to the factory lcd anteannea, I know, I know, but right now I don't need any killer range, that will come later.
I got the drivers from cisco online, no real support from them, the place that I got it from told me that they do not support wifi and sold it without (although it was installed.) The overall configuration of the machime has been changed somewhat from factory, nothing that should affect this though.
I am running Win2k pro
As for the drivers with the model# ??? who knows, I downloaded the Win2k aironet 350 install bundle from cisco.
It seems that I may be missing a program or something, I was able to get online at the college which is an unsecured network; but I don't have any way to see what networks are available to choose one and enter the password. Unsecuring my home or work networks is not an option. I just figured since you guys seem to do a lot with theese toughbooks, one of you had run the cisco before and could at least point me in the right direction.
This darn rubber keyboard hs got to go!!!!!!!!!!
chicklet anyone??
Thanks for your info, I won't be back 'til later tonight (the little beauty queen has to make anappearance at a pagent.)

Ben.... You need to go look in the CF-28FAQ and some of the other stickies at the top of the forum and find the correct places to go for drivers for the Toughbook.
-
Rick, I think we are all on the correct wavelength. Ben is not connecting to his home access point via the 350 and that's probably because his DLink-524 is WPA encrypted, which is why his 350's ACU is not 'associated' to the WAP (note that he is able to his college's unsecured network).
I had the same issue at home using the 350 and unless I change the settings in the router from WPA to WEP, the card will not link, so Ben should look into his router's settings and change/ SAVE whatever is appropriate.
Of course the other possibility is that Ben's router has his SSID hidden or MAC filtering enabled and the 350's MAC address is not in that filter...
*self-taught and waiting to be smacked!!*

Ben,
IIRC, the DLink-524 has 4 UTP ports and the CF-28S has UTP port built in (near your right palm rest). Hook 'em up directly if you're in a real hurry and resolve the software configuration later!

You simply need to create a profile on your CF-28 for your home and work routers. You will need to access the router/s and get the full encryption key that you will enter into the cisco profile manager. The Cisco 350 will support WPA with software version 1.2 or later but I don't think your issue is WPA.
-
Duh... Okay... I thought he would have figured out the encryption thing... Thats a given... Or I thought it was..
Yeah... I don't have any more WEP crap... That's in the trash with the Flowbee hair cutting system, wacky clackers and rotating disco ball... They just didn't work either! -
Those Cisco 350's still fetch up $100.00 on Ebay so if you throw any more away throw them my way

Ok guys, I read the FAQ already, but I will go back and check to see if my driver could be wrong. As for the direct cable, that is how I am doing it now, but it severely restricts my study habits. I can deal with it, but I am one of those people who likes for something to work if it is there. The router has a published ssid, and MAC filtering is off. I think I am going to save the current settings and then reboot the router so it will be unlocked and un-password protected (my nephew set the admin password and acts like he don't remember what it is.) And maybe set it to WEP, as it is currently set to WPA-PSK. If I can logon then, I will know that it is "simply" a matter of getting the settings correct.
Thanks again........... -
2-go, I do have an extra card if u need one......
-
I could use a "good" battery!
-
Ben... I love your new Avatar..... I could not agree more!
I wish I could express this to some of the people I deal with.... It would be nice to be able to flash this avatar to some of them. -
Thanks, can't remember where I got it, I use it for caller id on my cell (for certain individuals who shall remain nameless.......)
-
ok, looks like I have narrowed it down, when I remove the password protection, SHAAZAAM!! Conected @11mbps
so...... anybody familiar with the Aironet Client Utility that can tell me where to put in the password? I know, sounds like a dumb question, but it is not clearly labeled and I have tried what I can think of.....

This is what I was trying to say in post 11 but here is a good detailed write up I found that may help you, http://tinyurl.com/asx76n You can skip to step 5-1 since the XP stuff doesn't apply to you. You will need to re-enable encryption in your AP and write down the key so you can enter it in the Cisco ACU.
-
wow tough, that looks like exactly what I needed I'll try it later. I will assume the UofH stuff will not apply to me right? (ha ha ha)
