I've got two cf 29s, mk I and Mk II. I may need to do a fresh windows install on the MK I, but was wondering if I could just clone the MK II onto the MK I. I know from reading threads on the subject that going from Mk I to, say, MK 4 is a risky. Has anyone gone from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1? The mk II has all the drivers, software in place, and I"m lazy. Any help is appreciated.

Not soo much risky as it is a pita.
There farther apart he make, the more hardware differences. I don't know at what point xp will have a hissy about the difference in hardware in reference to wpa, but it will go through a rigamarole needing drivers for the new hardware. then you'll need to reboot in safe mode, and uninstall the mk2 drivers for hardware that is no longer present.
I think. Try it and let us know....
Good luck. -
It may work. I have swapped the hard drive between Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 CF-18's and it work. Even a CF-W2 (900mhz)to a Mk2 CF-18. (1.1 mhz).
Lets compare hardware on the CF-29

I just did a clone from Mk2 to Mk1. It all worked except for the touchpad needed to load a (different?) driver, which WinXP found. Was going from touchscreen to non-touchscreen on the Mk1, so maybe the driver was needed for that not the Mk change.

Thanks for the responses.
Springfield, could you tell me what cloning software you used? -

Did you use the free edition?

Used the free edition a while back. Liked it enough to pay for the Standard Edition. Now I have restorable images of dozens of TB models and other computers.
