    Common Parts between CF-Wxx models?

    Hi!

    Long story short: My second hand CF-W4 came with a very dirty palmrest. Unfortunately my (wrong :( ) attempts to clean it peeled off the paint of the optical drive cover, now it looks worse than it was before.

    So I'm trying to find a new or used cover in good shape, unfortunately this part is difficult to find in Ebay and alikes, but I found a site that used to have covers for the CF-W 2, CF-W 5 and CF-W 8 models. A quick look on google showed me that all three are also 12.1" semi rugged notebooks that look very similar to mine.

    So the question is: are some parts of these models interchangeable? I'd be interested in the palmrest, optical drive cover and LCD screen (mine have some spots)

    On the W2 model the DVD drive is on the opposite side than it is on the W4 and up model.

    So the CF-W2 won't work at all as far as the palm rest goes. I am not sure about the screen and connections on the W2. Now I know the lid (screen housing) on the CF-W4 is thin like the CF-W2, but the lid for the for the CF-W5 is thicker with a removable area for WWAN.

    Now I have seen W5 models with a lid like the W4 on ebay, and there are some promotional pictures of the W5 with the W4 style lid. I don't know if they are early models or not. Not all W5's that have the WWAN lid have WWAN. I have three CF-T5's and one CF-W5 all of them have the WWAN lid but none of them have a WWAN card. I am not even sure what card will work with that model either.

    The lower base seems to be the same, all the bends looks the same. Only difference I seen was that the W4 has a rubber cover for the modem/lan lines and the W5 does not. I have a W5 if you need to compare some physical dimensions.

    Thanks guys for the replies! What about the LCD screens? Will they be interchangeable? Or will every model has its own screen that fits only in its lid?

    I could check the part # but I find that even if one screen might fit another or might even be the same the part # will be different so unless some one on here has worked on one or replaced one you might never know

    Yeah I also think so after reading the manuals from a W5 and the W4, the optical drive cover has different part# but look pretty much the same :confused:

    I guess I will had to try with one to find the truth...

    Is that the same "Toughbook grey" color? I was thinking as an alternative to find a nice sticker ;)
