I am wondering about the Toughbook monitor CF- VDL02 and the Toughbook keyboard CF-VKBL02 if they will work with Mini ITX Carputer Intel D510MO. I am trying to do a vehicle setup that is pretty decent for a cheaper price then toughbooks. I plan to mount the computer in the trunk and run necessary cables to the front. All input is greatly appreciated or if you have another idea please let me know. Thanks.

The interesting thing will be whether or not you can get the system to accept the Panasonic Windows XP Touchscreen Driver.

Don't forget; you are going to need genuine Panasonic cables between the keyboard and display, as the Function Key cable is proprietary (AFAIK).

The VDL01-02 do not use the regular Panasonic driver, they use the UPDD driver which should work on any computer. The proprietary FN cable is required only for the special hot buttons on the display, the rest of the data travels through the serial and video cables direct to the computer.

That's what I thought, too; but Panasonic includes this notation along with the driver file:

    cfvd02_xp_u1_d100858.exe (2.4 mb)

    [Download Time 512k: 42.7 sec]

This file is self-expandable on any Toughbook model‚ but the drivers can only be installed (used) on the applicable model number.

And since the driver is installed on the computer and not on the display, well .....

Do you think the Hot Buttons would even work with the Mini ITX Carputer Intel D510MO?

They are function keys that are just in parallel with the keyboard's function keys. Not to be confused with the hotkeys on the laptop. These are the standard function keys present on all keyboards so they should work just fine on any computer.

I thought I read somewhere a long time ago that they were special keys. I've never tried to use them. If you're lucky and paying attention you learn something new every day.
TC, they are installed on the computer, but the data comes from the serial cable. Any computer can handle a touch screen, its just another input device. The displays will work with any computer with a serial port.

You can try different combinations to get it up and running, this is quite a custom setup
Ps2 to usb adapters work for the touchpad/keyboard
