    Hi guys,

Need some help here. So went to turn on my toughbook cf30 mk2 today and it would just freeze on the windows xp screen. Tried rebooting it a few times but same problem. Then tried in safe mode and a whole bunch of, what looks like DOS script, comes up and just stays there. Never making it to windows.

Is this a hard drive issue? Or something else?

    Thanks.

when you boot safe mode on xp, sometimes it will hang for quite a while (I have had to wait as long as 4 minutes).
Try safe mode again, but let it sit for 5minutes or so before giving up on it.

Have you tried to boot from a live cd?
Does your bios have SMART (I have a 29, not a 30). If it does, that can tell you if your hdd is dying.

I just left it on for at least 15 min. Just stayed on the same dos screen for safe mode.

I don't have a cd on me right now. I'm out in camp at the moment. Any other thoughts on what might be causing this?

A hardware failure will cause that. A virus will do it too.
Also, post what the last text line is if you can.

I'm away from my computer for the next few hours but when I get back I'll post the last line.

I did upgrade the hard drive to a one TB not to long ago. So I hope it's just that.

But not gonna lie, could be a virus. I do visit many adult sites haha.

Also please let us know how it was shut down the last time it was turned off/suspended/hibernated.... If suspend or hibernated and the battery is disconnected you wil most likely have errors like this.

You can also try inserting your windows disk and running a repair. If it is a virus, and you have a corrupt .dll file, this could correct it. The next best thing is to load a virus check (Avgfree.com is a great free one) onto a thumb drive and run it and see if it finds anything.

Just run AVG from the thumb drive! Its latest incarnation is WAY bloated and will slow your system down if installed on the hard drive. I stopped using it.

Also, do a search for my username and "host file". I've posted many times about small footprint/low memory/simple security measures.

At least google "mvps host file." That will stop much of your "adult" oriented malware/spyware/adware.

    Good luck.
TIP: A little %91 isopropyl rubbing alcohol can be used on a paper towel to wipe down the entire toughtbook. XD

Not to threadjack... But I use something similar... 85% water, 15% isopropyl alcohol (91% type) and a few squirts of a nice smelling soap. It cleans just about everything and leaves no residue! (And it ends up smelling like Brooklyn Decker!)

*@TB; angry 6year old bov voice yelling*
I learned it from watching you!
Side note; Dollar store sells cheesy little spray bottles. %91 is AWESOME at cleaning glass tabletops, tables, tv screens, cook tops, counter tops.................I don't use OH every time, but it sure kicks the crap out of many other cleaners.
Sometimes directly spray the surface, other times just spray it on a paper towel, ALWAYS be careful

Did somebody suggested already to take out the ram and then reboot it one ram at a time or maybe tested with known good ram. Sometimes also the wi-fi card turn kapot and coz the system not to boot.

Ohlip has a point. We usually tell people to pull everything but the battery and HDD, and try to boot, adding 1 component at a time until boot fails, and viola, there's the cause/bad part.

    I hate that crap.
On electronic cigarette forums (ECF) there is a noob subforum, and you can't post anywhere else until you have posted 15 or 20 posts in THAT subforum. It's coded into the PHP of the site.

I wonder if we can do that here. WE have a few people posting in the BST forum with 3 posts, and others who come in, ask a question, and dissapear like a fart in the breeze.....
