I've got a CF30 mounted in the CF-WEB301 vehicle mount. There is a Larsen/Pulse GPS antenna (# GPSNMO02) on the roof connected via coax to the ANT B UPPER port of the vehicle mount (Panasonic's recommendation).

I can't get any software to recognize a GPS signal. I also tried Hyperterminal per Panasonic's recommendation, and was not getting a feed (COM3). I gather that I should set the software to COM3. I've done that, but there is no COM3 port listed in Device Manager. I've got COM1, COM2, and LPT1 for a printer.

I assume I need to set up a COM3 port, but don't know how. I'm using XP with an agency-specific image. The full model designation is CF-30KCPNQ2M.

So I tried using Add New Hardware to add a COM port. It created COM5. I went to Properties > Port Settings > Advanced to change it to COM3, and it said COM3 was in use (1-4 were in use). Again, only COM1 and 2 are showing up in device manager.

    I uninstalled the COM5.

    Model Number: CF-30KCPNQ2M
    Status: DISCONTINUED
    MSRP: $2,200
Description: Windows XP Prpofessional (Vista COA), Intel® Core 2 Duo SL9300 1.60 GHz (Centrino2), vPro, 13.3" XGA Touch Screen, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM, Intel® Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, TPM 1.2 Security Chip, Bluetooth, Emissive Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader, Dual Pass (Upper:WWAN/Lower:WLAN), Gobi WWAN Modem, Smartcard Reader, No Optical Drive, Toughbook Preferred Warranty

If it was OEM-equipped with GPS, the Model Number would have an "L" in the eighth caharacter position; to-wit, it would be:

    CF-30KCPLQ2M

This would be a custom ordered CF-30 Toughbook.

It would also have this antenna on the right corner of the lid:

Are you starting the laptop up while it is in the cradle? I have not used external antennas with the Toughbooks and a dock, but in my experience with (another brand :D ), Windows would not recognize the hardware except at startup. It also prevented the "undock" feature from working correctly.
