You know... Actually.... THIS POST is my 5000th post! (I was at 4999 when I looked it up after reviewing this thread.) The last time I looked at my post count it was like 4920 something and I thought about coming up on 5000 but thought it woud be a ways off... I think that was last week....
This is definitely the most fun, active and educational forum that I have ever joined. I have posts counts in the low 1000's on a few other forums after years of posting.... But this is the longest continuous one I have been associated with... A lot of it has to do with being a moderator... But mostly it is because Toughbooks are just SO COOL!
When I started here in May 2007 there had been a driver question about 3 months before that. I posted my antenna mod for the CF-28 and a few people responded... That developed more of a presence on Google I suppose because before long we had some VERY wicked smart people on here. Some have stayed and some have come and gone... Some still drop in occasionally. Most of the brilliant ones have stuck around to help us all out!
But I want to thank YOU GUYS for making this forum what it is! EVERY ONE OF YOU!
Thanks!

Paging Dr. Daniels, paging Dr. Jack Daniels...you are needed in the Toughbook household stat for a celebration of friendship and life. Dr. Daniels will then be making his rounds with many stops all around the world! Congrats Rick, this site wouldn't be what it is without your knowledge, leadership and babysitting skills!
-
Congratulations and thanks for the help and support you have given me and everyone else who has shown an interest in toughbooks.

Holy Hand Grenade Batman!
Much thanks to you, TB, and a nod to all of the other contributors of this forum. Yes the awesome product that is the subject matter of this forum is the reason we are all here in the first place, yet that is not why I stay. I too have joined many a forum but none have the sense of camaraderie and stewardship that I feel here. This is especially apparent when compared to other PC tech forums. The information here is thorough, the tone is supportive. The curious are rewarded with information and direction. The uniformed and ignorant are informed and educated.
This is an all around great community, thanks in a large part to you Toughbook.
Thank You! -
Good jorb Rick! Have a drink on me!

-
5000's posts is a lot of information on these computers! Thanks for increasing the body of knowledge available and being instrumental in making this the community that it is.
-
Attitude? What???? lol I didn't think that sounded mean did it?? :-/
-
No, it wasn't mean. Check the spelling in your previous message, it just sounds like the liquor got a hold on your fingers as well as the tongue.
-
lol, I'm at work... no liquor here... I got "Jorb" from Home Star Runner about 10 years ago when I was in middle school and was a fan of the site...
-
O...K? That would have made you, what, ten at the time?
-
Rick, well done! Yep, a big thank you from across the oceans as well.

I was 14 actually... LOL 9.5 years ago... 8th grade buddy! lol
-
Eigth grade huh? Geez, I have lots of clothes that are older than you! Oh, to young, dumb and full of ...........!
-
TB,
As a very new user I sincerely appreciate your foresight in instituting the Unofficial Panasonic CF-29 Toughbook Thread. What a wealth of information in one place. You should make it sticky.
Since reading through the whole thing plus all of the GPS thread etc. I feel like I know a few of you folks.
Congratulations.
Jeff -
Why is it called the unofficial thread anyways??? isn't it the official thread???????
-
You know.... I do not know why I did that... I guess a habit from HowardForums.com days... Where I learned to hack cell phones. Everything was "Unofficial" there since we were doing stuff we probably shouldn't have been doing.... But since modding the CF-29 (As well as other Toughbooks) is something we SHOULD be doing I have renamed it in honor of Rob and Stickied in honor of Jeff!
It is NOW, "The OFFICIAL CF-29 Toughbook Thread!" AND it is stuck to the very top.
Good ideas from you both.... Thanks! -
HoFo... I remember those good old days Rick! Which forum did you hover around in the most? I was usually in the Sprint and Nextel ones...
-
I'm a tried and true Motorola Man myself. I wrote several tutorials there. (Pics gone now of course) but like some here... Someone posted a PDF before my server swapped.
HoFo was a great learning experience. The things you can do with a hex edit here or there.... Amazing!
Speaking of that... I LOVE my new Motorola Droid! Since they have gone to the Android 2.1 platform and updated Google Maps from Beta mode to 1.0... GPS is MUCH better.
I've thought about rooting my Droid and hacking it too. But it takes time to read through all the posts before you start to ask questions enough to learn... And ask intelligent questions... I just don't have the time to do the reading. My wife already tells me that I spend to much time on the laptop. (And after 5000 posts she now knows where I spend the bulk of my time!)
I loved my old V600, V635 and then the Razr.... I tried so many phones with AT&T to get good reception at my house. It wasn't until I moved up to the iPhone that I realized that the phone is fine... It is the carrier! AT&T sucks! At least in my area. Since switching to Verizon (with a 25% discount from my wife's employer) I have yet to have a dropped call or a place I cannot get service. My new Plantronics BT headset fits in my ear so well I forget it is there and now my Droid gets reception down in my shop whereas with AT&T I had to go to the right corner of my deck to talk... And even then I would drop calls....
I digress.... HoFo is s GREAT place to learn cell phones! I figured that there would be a few people here that were also there. My logon there was DaRippa after a nickname I picked up 2 lifetimes ago.... -

Typing with one's thumbs is a wholly unnatural act; a violation of the laws of nature. I'm certain it will be discovered that it caused the fall of the Roman Empire by creating a rift in the fabric of space/time... -

OT: What iDEN phone do you use? Interested in a Moto i930 camera phone? -
Of course they really have no idea, my first cellphone was a Okidata in 1984 and it was about the size of a 12" piece of 2x4 and a marvel of compactness for its time! It cost close to $2500.
The i930 is an interesting model. Send me a PM and let me know what you want for it. -
I remember when the i930 came out... EVERYONE wanted it! it had a $599.99 MSRP to it as well... They later released the i920 which was the same phone but with no camera...

I heard they Re-released this model with a larger battery to take up where the old electronics were... I heard it has like a week's worth of talk time and months of stand-by time.... But it may have been a joke...
-
In reguards to NCIC, I always thought that the little Goth Lab Tech, Pauley Perrete, was particularly yummy! I really like that icky black hair and bright red lip stick, black leather, lace, some chains, and ....
Oh sorry, Yeah Toughbook, 5000 posts, that is so awesome!!! -
