    Is there a correlation between CF-51/52 serial numbers and model numbers?

    I've got an inventory of 150 laptops with serial numbers, but only partial model numbers (i.e. "CF-51"). Long story short, I will not have contact with the organization (they are a deployed submarine) but need to know the model numbers out to the fourth digit (i.e. "CF-51LM).

    Here is what a few of mine look like. I can see no physical difference between 6KTY and 6HTY. I'll shut this one down and check bios differences and edit if necessary.
    On one of them in the serial the first five characters are different font then the 5 numbers meaning the characters mean something IMHO.
    The RCLD all have the hanging R.

    CF-51RCLDFBM 6HTYA0 R
    CF-51RCLDFBM 6HTYA0 R
    CF-51RCLDFBM 6KTYA20446 R

    CF-51RCBDFBM 6FTYA9 edit: V3.50L10
    CF-51RCBDFBM 6FTYA9

    CF-51ABBDAKM 4JMTA2
    CF-51AB0EAKM 5BMTB3

    Yep... they correlate. FWIW.

    Well Rob figured out a while back that the first digit is the manufacture year.
    6 =2006
    5 =2005

    CF 51RCLDFBM--7FTYA5xxxx R
    CF 51RC4EFBM--7DTYA3xxxx R

    The TYA seems to indicate a CF 51RC

    6KTYA bios V3.50L12
    6HTYA bios V3.50L13

    Again FWIW and the bios could have been upgraded before I got my greasy paws on it. Looks like TYA might be CF-51RC so far. Shawn has a good memory and it makes sense.

    There is absolutely no correlation between model numbers and serial numbers (unfortunately for you :( ).

    Rob and Pinecone, you both are correct, the first digit is year of manufacture, 7=2007, 2nd digit is month of manufacture h= aug.

    Pine, there is no correlation between model and serial so you are correct

    Also, in the serial number it would look as follows
    6=2006
    A=Jan
    TYA=I believe this is the manufacturing factory (Panasonic has several factories around Japan)
    79436=Consecutive number, much like a VIN number on a car. I believe these start at 10000
