The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/4834812269963775

I started this group for us on Facebook since they are sitting this forum down on the 31st.

If anyone knows a better one let me know.

I have class in Texas most days next week but I will be downloading and saving a few threads and see about adding them to the new place.

Maybe we can find some kind of free hoster for a new forum later on that will be there for a while.

That is why I am looking at forum prices. Facebook will be fine to keep up with each other. But sorting threads and keeping the info easy to find looks like it will be issue.

Azrial texted me last night about this... I had already seen it but I jumped on the FB group late last night.

I have a bunch of Toughbooks and parts around but haven't build one for money in a long time.

I miss the good old days!

I usually find whatever I need for my MacBook easily enough online in various articles etc. Toughbooks are REALLY niche machines. There seems to be a very small group of people that truly understand and get them. Maybe my "World View" is narrow and there are many more non english speakers hiding in Russian forums lol... But it seems like most of the English speaking Toughbook experts in the world, can be found here on NBR.

I am not sure what makes this small little sub forum work so so well. It might actually be that all of the traffic, occurs in the same area. But it also means when some wanker like myself is working on 5 different projects at once, my multiple threads take over the front page lol. But is that bad? I mean I am getting QUICK answers and responses to all of these separate threads/and problems QUICKLY, and finding them just as quickly. I have actualy knocked out today, what without this forum would have taken me easily a week to do. And as I am doing this, it is easy to answer other threads that pop up and I can help on.

Thinking out loud. It might actually be a simple format to recreate.

Anyways, I am hoping that most of the guys here hop over onto the TBT forum. If laptopforum keeps a simple fast paced subform like this though, I am probably ending up registered at both!

Most of the guys here are already over at TBT, we have always jumped back and forth. And mainly we have always helped each other out and don’t mind helping anyone else as long as they don’t take advantage of it.

Receiver that is AWESOME! I will actualy about to put up a thread asking about this very thing. I am glad somebody smarter than me lol is doing this successfully. I will stop trying as I am pretty sure my efforts would add to the mess and slow down other attempts. I just got pages of errors and suspected I would have to check the "ignore robot instructions" and also suspected that as a little, pushy lol.

Super cool! It sounds much more established than it was when I registered. Hopefully, I still am!

And for sure, there has to be something given back! I mean while I have half a dozen threads going right now dealign with a whole bunch of random projects at once, I know a BIG reason I get such quick responses to my questions, is I am also doing the same wherever I can for others. And while I am not nearly as smart as many of you here, I am persistent and enjoy typing it out and documenting it. So while not exactly short... There are buried answers that can help others out too. Hopefully, lol.
