So I just got my dvd rw in today and was all ready for the swap. I noticed a couple of interesting things. 1. The caddy did not have the top part or the metal bracket part. 2. The board did not look the same as the one in the swap pics..(no points to solder) 3. The drive boots fine without doing it. What gives? Did I get lucky? Its an SBC model. Anyone else noticed this?

When you say the drive boots, do you mean that the computer boots from the dvd drive? If so, then it seems you've managed to get one that is factory set as master.

Yeah it boots from the dvd drive...which I guess is a good thing because the caddy and board look nothing like the one in the instructions on the forum

Interesting. Well I'm not one of the experts here, but I'd say if it boots and the door closes, call it good and be happy. :D

You have an aftermarket DVD caddy... A few have posted about that here... It is not the same as the OEM caddy...

Not to but into his thread, but are there any issues or concerns with the aftermarket caddies?

The aftermarket caddy will work in Windows with a "standard" (i.e. NOT a factory master) CD/DVD drive. HOWEVER if the drive is not a factory master you cannot boot to it from BIOS.
More on these in this thread --> Aftermarket CD/DVD caddy ?!?
