Hi, I'm a newbie on the toughbook scene and recently bought a CF-18 and imaged the 40GB drive onto a 160GB IDE HDD and fitted it onto a different caddy that I had aquired, so that I could swap drives for home & office use

After fitting the new drive the CF-18 won't power up any more, even with the original drive - no power light or indicators come on, its just totally dead

The power supply is OK, checked it with a friends CF-18

any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks

Take out hard drive/caddy, battery, and remove any additional ram that is removable from under the bottom speaker cover
Then try to boot into bios

Thanks Alex, it was as simple as that - everything is working perfectly now
I'm very very glad I didn't need to strip it down
    Thanks again for your help

Glad that worked.... I just got in a few 1.2GHz CF-18s and I foud one that will charge the battery but not run off the battery. When I try to turn it on... The screen brightness control buttons on the front right blink... And I can hear a faint clicking noise. I'll have to take it apart tomorrow and see...
