I have just purchased a second hand Mk 1 CF-19 and am having difficulty decoding the model number. The sticker on the back of the unit states: 'CF-19CHB18BE' Can anybody decode all the characters?

    Thanks in advance! :D

Have you tried the Toughwiki? There are links to decipher several Toughbook models:

Many thanks Shawn. Appreciate the detail. So this model is a special configuration just for Wales & West Utilities?

Yes, a Customer Special Configuration (18).

The spec. looks standard....what does the Logo Badge say?

From memory (the computer is currently on my desk at work) it is either the standard 'Toughbook' badge or isn't there at all (I assume you are referring to the badge that is usually on the back of the screen?). The non-standard things appear to be deletions. e.g. the stylus pen & curly cord aren't there and the hand-strap & hand-strap fixings aren't there. Other than those annoying factors, the second-hand CF-19 is in remarkably mint condition. Only paid £135 ($210) for it.

The unit did not come with a O/S installed (although a Win XP Pro Panasonic COA is stuck underneath it). I have pulled the hard-drive from my other work CF-19 and booted the 2nd-hand CF-19 from it. All boots-up okay, but I have yet to see the touch-screen working. I am a little surprised that it doesn't work, as it appears to be the same type of touch-screen on both machines. I have not investigated this very thoroughly yet though.

Thanks very much for the info about what '18' means in the part number!

    Cheers,

    ...Nick B

Yes the badge is on the rear of the lcd. They are usually gone by the time they go on auction. The missing badges and other "deletions" were probably "saved for personal use" by a previous owner/user.
