Diagnose touchscreen problem on CF19

I need help diagnosing a touchscreen problem on a CF-19KHRAG2M. Mouse always returns to one specific spot on the screen. Sometimes it will stay for a few seconds after you move it but usually it moves back to the one spot as you are moving it with the touchpad. It is touchscreen related because if I disable the touchscreen in device manager the mouse will move fine with the touchpad. I do not see an indentation on the screen in or around this spot.
If I try to calibrate the screen I can get the mouse to move closer to the corner mark the harder I press on the screen, but it never gets all the way to the corner. I have removed the protective screen and cleaned all the edges to remove any junk that might be caught between the bezel. The TB is out of a firetruck and has seen 5 years of constant service. Is the screen just worn out? I hate to send it in the Heartland if there is something I can do.

This is a do it yourself fix with a new touch panel. Like magic.

Be sure to tape the fpc in place.

Can this be replaced without disturbing the cables that run through the screen twist/swivel hinge? The last time we worked on a screen we had a bear of a time with that part.
Also, any tips on removing the screws on the bezel that hold the rubber locators (in the top corners) They look like they are installed with thread lock; I am unable to remove two of them, heads are stripping.

It's not that bad of a job to replace the touchscreen. I think there is a video on YouTube on how to do it. Heartland will want at least $200.00 to fix it

 

You can replace the LCD or the touchpanel with disassembly of the swivel hinge.
I start off by closing the lid and removing the rear screws.
Remove the black side and top covers and then lift off the rear cover with the logos on it.
To change the touchpanel, disconnect the 4 pin ffc going to the panel.
Then carefully lift the LCD with wires still connected away from the front bezel.
I always just flip the LCD over on it's back and lay it on a book setting beside the laptop.
Now you have access to the front bezel where the touchpanel is mounted..

Use a hairdryer to warm the screws, this loosens the locktite

 

The last touchscreen we purchased was from " techtuff" on eBay based on feedback on this site. Are they still recommended?

Rubber locators?
Just pull hinge covers, keyboard bezel and antenna covers.
The rubber pieces you describe are cushions/locators and will move with the lid pieces. I did that too on my first CF-18.
There may be hidden screw or two under the antenna covers.

I roll the lid cover out of the way.
Locate clear plastic + rubber cushions (little guys) On the sides. Take a picture where they go.
un-latch touch panel FPC cable then roll lcd as a unit onto the lid. WAIT...before you unlatch it see if the cable is straight. Maybe un-plug re-plug and check. I'm more suspicious of the latch then I am of the touch panel on a CF-19K.

 

I had a slight error in my post. When the OP said rubber locators, I was thinking corner covers on a CF30
I was partially thinking of a CF30 and partially thinking of a CF19. Maybe I was designing a CF39 or a CF10????

Yep, I caught your error but I let you slide this time.

 

This unit known for good quality touchscreen panel but I have one unit acted like that and what I found is that the circuit bridge/ connection between the glass assembly and the ribbon cable start to separate due to heat. Different story though on CF-30MK1, CF-18, CF-29 and CF-19Mk1. It can be cured by a mildheat also but it require a disassembly of the LCD panel to access to those area.

Hi if it has GPS unit it is probably the serial mouse needs to be disabled in device driver and do the gps registry fix.

 

Anyone have a good source for Touchscreen panels? Seller "TechStuff" on ebay is currently out.
