Looks like a neat laptop Now I wished I found something like that 2 years ago. lol Or even better one for my CF-29. BTW is it possible the Military used CF-28's and had them coated?

Nice unit. -
There are no mjor mod..... on that unit just the color. I don't wanna waste $1300 for that. How about you, Guys?
ohlip -
).
But he does have several hundred in solar panel charger, multiple batteries, AC, DC, extra battery charger, GPS at about $60+, all the covers, 1 ghz, dvd.
(But he doesn't mention touchscreen, and no wifi I think.)
For what some have gone for, he might get it. -
I didn't see anything special about it. Looks kind of like a hack and paint job. The seller couldn't even spell ULTAMATE correctly.
-
Well I asked some questions there is a Wireless module but the Antenna was removed as well as the module. Sounds like my laptop except I left the antenna. I didnt mention the spelling Error, but unless its a slip it may be a military model that the guy picked up?
I did look at the Solar panel Pics and its REAL, I remember Navy Seals using them in training about 5 years ago in San Diego, of course they were using SatCom Radios with it. lol
The solar panel itself being REAL not after market is about $600+ Basically because the aftermarket ones arent what they are rated atleast thats what I found with mine. I'm going to ask for the Model number to ne posted. lol
I'm not going to buy it as I just bought my CF-29 but personally I think its worth the money, I put alot more than that in my CF-28 with the costs of shipping etc. Technically minus the Solar panel price he isnt asking much for all the extras. -
That's a non-panasonic paint job. They would have included a green toughbook sticker for the middle. Also doesn't look like an OEM finish.
His solar panels are the only thing interesting about it.
I still need to tamper with my "army discarded" solar panels that I've got... -
Yes the Solar Panel is impressive, I noticed also there seems a small bag that look like Solar accessories. To be honest the Paint job looks like the PRC Radio type the Heavy Ceramic type. Maybe it was an Ex Navy Seal Laptop and hence the Customization? Its not uncommon to have the repainted after all the Silver isnt the best for Covert Operations. lol
I personally had my CF-28 coated in Black, But I have to admit the OD is VERY nice especially with the Solar Panels in the background.
To be honest Minus the Panel its not a bad price, I was doing some math.
3 Batteries Aftermarket the must be would be about $110- $140 each The laptop with those Specs and covers about $600-700, Hard coat paint, not sure by I would guess $100+, LAPTOP BAG $20, USB GPS going for about $50-$60, Adapter for charging batteries outside laptop, No Idea it looks custom and DC charger about $20/
Going on low end prices mentioned would be total excluding the Solar Panel $1120.00 Making the Panel about $260.
You know what One could buy the laptop KEEP the panel and then Sell the Laptop and recover losses! I wish I had the extra cash but I am bleed out on my CF-29. I wonder where most here get their money to have 3-4 laptops? -
Very few of us need the solar charger. For me, if I had that kind of money to spend, I'd buy one of Toughbooks "Ultimate Tough Books" and have a good usable computer with a reliable person to back it up.
I'm from Texas; money talks and bullsh_t walks! -
The mayor in Detroit spent my lunch money to cover up his scandal
On a side note, those batteries aren't too impressive. I've been getting great Panasonic branded 6.6Ah batteries on eBay for $70 a piece, brand new. -
Modly, where on Ebay did you find CF-28 new date 6.6Ah batteries for $70? Because I bought all mine on Ebay and they were $110 each plus shipping and I always look for good deals? Though I wish I could find them for that price links are welcome even to a closed auction. ;-)
I dont know I almost bought from "Ulimate Toughbooks" but I felt he was more of a scam at the prices he charges JUST for the notebook alone, I have to say in comparing his prices are a little high, atleast this other guy is throwing in a Solar panel.
To each their own, its all academic anyway, I have no money to spare so who cares who gets it. Though I think its a neat setup for novelty reasons. -
Search for this part number; CF-VZSU18B
He always has one on buy-it-now, and one on auction. -
Thats what I thought, you do know that LithIon batteries have a Shelf life? From the moment they are made they start to decay, They are not like NiMh Batteries which can last forever if unused thats why I never bought the originals the CF-28 hasnt been made in years and the life of the batteries can be anything. But still thats not a bad deal.
I bought some Panasonics for my CF-29, only because that laptop isnt as old and most of the parts are still new like Batteries, but even then you never know when they will go. So I STILL say the 6.6Ah batteries that are OEM NEW are not a bad deal.
BTW thanks for the link, funny back when I got my CF-28 about 18 months ago you couldnt find new Panasonics for that price. -
never a dull post here, always get a good laugh!=======================lt1956, some of us buy broken or rough shape toughbooks and fix them up. sometimes get burned too.
-
Whatever, it looks like he sold it in less than 24 hours!
-
He's got two more up on ebay now
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZwilliamj4616
You can either buy-it-now or watch the other one, they usually go for about $50 plus shipping
GB -
Wow, it sold FAST! I figured it would some people will buy because of the military theme. Maybe everyone here should paint their Laptops Green to sell? lol
Thanks for the Link Gray I see some things I could use. -
I dont know I almost bought from "Ulimate Toughbooks" but I felt he was more of a scam at the prices he charges JUST for the notebook alone, I have to say in comparing his prices are a little high, atleast this other guy is throwing in a Solar panel.
LT,
I have dealt with "Ultimate Toughbooks" and he is a "Stand up Guy"! -
There are others using the ultimate designation though, that I know nothing about.
That said, since I can't afford that much, I'm here with this fine group of people trying to get the mods to go, and hopefully breaking even on everything. And for anything modded on my CF-28, I can proudly say 'It's my fault'!
-
I'd say Toughbook puts a warranty on his "Ulimate Toughbooks" and has a 100 % feedback on 750 auctions. I'd say that’s not a “SCAM”. He has a heart or he wouldn't be sharing all of his knowledge. Could you get that kind of loyalty from any other seller? I bet not.

So Toughbook is the seller if Ultimate toughbook? If SO then I agree with your statements, I didnt know it was him. Though the prices are still high compared to a cf-29 you can get now, I have no problem or question of his work or business ethics if its the same Toughbook who is moderator here?
No offence meant. -

Yep, we look after our Moderator here, and he looks after us.
Not many discussion forum moderators can brag about that! -
As far as being "high" priced, I don't think so, you can't put a price tag on the quality and support that he offers.
As in all aspects of life there are many out there that would rather shell out a few bucks and not have to worry about the mechanical part..... -
If you look at the amount of work that TB puts into his product it's a very good price. You can buy a 29 for $825 from HighTech, which I did, but you don't get near the laptop that TB is putting out.

It's the same old thing, pay me now or pay me later (and you take all of the risk). -
speaking of moderators and so on. Has anyone ever thought of creating a Toughbook Community site?
-
Man TB is going to have a big head when he gets done reading this thread -
- Seriously TB is the real deal and does do a great job with his products - If you look closely you will see some of his customers show up here and are quite happy with their purchases - He is is just a good guy that tries to do the best job he can - I have a lot of respect for him having that many TB's sold and keeps his customers happy - I have only done a few and if you are going to do it right and give service after the sale it can take a lot of extra effort to keep some people happy - -

Calm down, fella - not everyone knows who's who, out side of the forum. No harm intended.
<Okay, toss in the bales of dragonnip, and back out slowly, and someone get Angelina on the line > -
Too funny!
I would pay admission just to read the posts on this forum!

Hmmmm... "Scam" seems a bit harsh don't you think? I think "High Priced" might have been a better adjective. Personally... I don't feel they are high priced because I know what goes into them and the quality of work I do and service I provide... Which you do not know about. But then you have your own opinion. I am now going onto about 60 sales with 100% customer satisfaction. Not all of those are on ebay of course but I don't think there are any others on ebay who have the kind of feedback that I have after so many sales. I build and sell an average of 1 laptop every 2-3 days... Sometimes more than that. I think that puts my CF-28 experience level above at least some one this board.... Which is why I like to help others. It has been a dual edged sword. There are a lot of sellers on ebay that have benefited from our knowledge and experience without giving back to our community. I think they are the scam artists.
Guys... I truly appreciate the kind words on my behalf. You guys are a large part of why I like this place so much. The closeness and eagerness to help out others here is unlike any other forum that I have ever been associated with. All this without, usually, any harsh words or attitudes.
There are a few newbies out there though that are starting to try my patience. My advice continues to be "Read more threads!" Especially since there are a lot of answers to the questions that are constantly being asked. Modly went to a lot of trouble to put together a F A Q that (it seems) very few newbs actually read.
Thanks again guys! -
Isnt the FAQ say for the CF-28? Some of us own a CF-29 and wouldnt look at that thread like myself. Even though a noobie.
Also there are some others that are using Ultimate Notebook, I was speaking of one of them as they didnt have 100% feedback like you and the Klatu name wasnt them, BTW I Love that movie also!
I also think some here should realize that Not everyone is going to KNOW who is who, and either way I think one would WANT a non bias opinion of someone who was going to buy a laptop but didnt as that type of feedback a person normally doesnt get.
As for Your laptops HIGH PRICED is a better term, the other guy I felt was a scam as some of his laptop didnt have antenna and claimed wireless.
This was just a matter of mistaken identity, and opinion on the costs or worth of a cf-28. The Cost of my CF-28 with all my extras and including shipping costs only cost me about $1300, I never needed customer support and have many batteries etc included in that price, hence why I felt the price of $1500+ is a little high IMO.
Toughbook, I am not questioning YOUR character there are others on EBAY using the SAME listing titles without your feedback.Hope you didnt take offense it wasnt personal.

Group Hug!!
LT's right, several 'Ulti' named TB's out there for sale. I 1st brought up the 'klatu...' mention, to delineate between the various offerings, and I doubt that all of us here had made the connection ,especially newer members.
We have to feel free to critique the online sellers, or everyone will make the same mistakes in purchases - there are other threads here where someone has praised or panned a seller, and many requests for specifics where there was a general mention.
So lets be sure we've stopped this snowball before it causes damage.
And somebody dump some cold water on A.J. and mnemnemnementh over there in the corner.
<grabs shovel and starts pushing around piles of dragonnip.
Oh gawd, what did I just step in.>
-
Yeah, what he said.
I didn't REALLY think you meant OUR Ultimate Toughbook.
There are lots of "imitators", but we got the original, Gin-you-wine, Ultimate Toughbook guy right here and he is open for bid-ness!

There are for sure some fly-by-night builders/sellers on ebay. As for my laptops being high priced... They are of course... For this crowd. To a person who has never lifted a screwdriver or smelled solder... The price is right. A few of my customers thanked me for "The deal they got" so they must think they got a tremendous value for the money. Would I pay $1500 for a CF-28? No. I couldn't afford to do what I do if I did that. Would I pay $1500 for an Ultimate Toughbook if I didn't know squat about how things work?... I'd stand in line to get one.
It slays me to see some of the Toughbook "creations" on ebay. And yes it kind of ticks me off to know that they are getting all their info on how to do it right here... From our posts! There was a thread a couple of months ago dealing with sharing and pooling our knowledge and posting our finds, studies, experiments, etc. At first I thought I might not... But it is just way too fun not to post all about it! Plus... If you are a known "hoarder" of info and then YOU need help... Who's going to help you then. (Okay... Probably us... But you get my point.) There have been a few sellers that have dropped by here to ask a few questions only to disappear and start building Toughbooks and selling them on ebay and other places. After they got a few bad feedback "swats on the nose" they disappeared and I haven't seen them since. There was even one guy who copied one of my pictures and claimed it as his own! Now THAT ticked me off! I make sure I watermark EVERY picture now.
I figure the old adage, "What comes around, goes around"... Especially around here. I've never worked with a nicer, more talented group of people. I have a lot of fun here... I've learned a lot and hopefully have helped a few people in return. And to me... That is what it is all about!
Did you see this Laptop on Ebay?
