First I would like to say this TOUGHTBOOK forum is great. I bought my first one last summer and it took about 8 months to read EVERY thread / post and from reading them all I did every mod you guys talked about or did ......just by reading. My Toughbook now ROCKS. :)
I am now moving to a CF-29E and what I am wondering is the difference between the AC adapter for cf-29 and a CF-28 . I have an extra 28 but no 29
ac adapter.I have checked the back of the of the 28 AC and then checked :eek:bay for pics , they look the same (amps / volts ) but the (+) and the (-) if I am right ?? Can this be switch ? I know this may sound crazy but If I am right after all the reading I have done, to own a Toughbook you must be half NUTS , drink lots of beer and go where no one else has gone. :D

You are correct, it will work if you change the jack
The used cf-29 adapters are not that expensive , and there can be a lot of stress on the end where it go's into the laptop ,I would recomend not changing it

Electrically they are the same, however the CF-29 uses a more conventional 'roca' style power connector (with the centre pin in the socket on the PC).

I have seen plug-in adapters listed somewhere, possibly ebay?

Be very carefull if you plan to change the connector, the Toughbook ones have a deep parallel 'spigot' in the moulded part which is smaller than the bodies of some loose plugs. Make sure the part you get will fully fit the socket on the computer before you start cutting things..

Thank you for the fast reply Tomcat57
That is what I thought but the way everone around here tears things apart I figure what the heck I would ask. I will be looking around for a new/used AC adapter and a HDD caddy for the cf-29 soon. Thank you very much for the info

Alot of the Sony AC adapters will work for the CF-28 as well. I remember buying 5 CF-28's once and they all came with Sony AC adapters - First thing I did was call my vendor asking about this and they said that they've never had any problems with it :)

Yeah - just make sure you get the Sony adapter that's rated 16V or 16.5V output - they also use one that has the SAME EXACT PLUG as the 16V ones (and our ToughBooks) but its output is 19V. It is NOT good for your ToughBook...
