    Hello,

I am considering purchasing a UBlox GPS to my CF-19. Are there any differences between these kits on ebay and does anyone know of a better deal?

Ublox 6 GPS KIT Panasonic Toughbook CF 19 Laptop MS Streets Trips Wwan Works | eBay

GPS KIT FOR Panasonic Toughbook CF 19 Wwan Coexist Ublox 6 | eBay

Also does anyone know of a source who will sell the board only? I have an antenna and antenna cover already, just need the board and cable to connect it.

    Thanks.

I'd go with techtuffs's kit. I think he builds a superior product.

For GPS and a bunch of other things...Techtuff is the man.
    Bottom line

You get what you pay for....always go with the guy that has done his homework. In this case it's Andre.

(after learning that the instructions were on the included disk ... not drivers)

    Sadlmkr..one of us is confused....

Techtuff is from Canada...and Vincent is custom-toughbooks from Norway.. They are not the same..

I recommend Vincent and custom-toughbooks.com for the best of the best. Fits in the stock location with stock antenna cover..etc..

    MY bad....

So why does everyone else like Techtuff better than Custom Toughbooks?

I like Vincent and Custom Toughbooks much better.

I had two units from Custom Toughbooks fail on me. One I used in a Toughbook that I sold as I was in a hurry to ship and he sent me one to try out. It failed, so I had to pay for shipping back to me, replacement of the GPS and then shipping back to the customer. Then he wanted to question whether I installed it correctly. It did work okay when I installed it or I wouldn't have shipped it out. It failed within one week.

Techtuff's kits are pretty much dummy proof. Everything is built into the housing. Reception was on par with my own design so I used his kits a few times when I didn't have time to micro-solder my own cables.

Since then I usually fab up 10-20 cables at a time when I do it. So now I don't need anyone else's kit.

Your mileage may vary. To be fair... I think Vincent has changed the design since then.

Another vote of confidence for Techtuff. Installed his GPS, and it "just worked". (cannot say anything about Custom, since I have not tried his stuff.)

cheap4tw I just pulled the trigger on one of the kits you are looking at in your original post. (but the kit I got was for my CF30).
I got this from the same seller,
A SET OF Ublox 6s GPS FOR Panasonic Toughbook CF19 CF 19 | eBay.

I made a $75 offer and they took it within a day. I ordered it and it was shipped and received within 9 days. Like you said it had more parts than I need for I all ready have a original GPS set up within my CF30.

I hope to get this installed soon and hope for a faster GPS internal. Now I am using a docking station with a pre setup USB SiRF III and love it. I am finding more and more I grab my CF30 for road trips with others and need a faster internal GPS. I so wish I could have just got the GPS card only and would have much preferred to bought it from a US suppler.
But the approximate $75 saved is still money in my pocket.

ohhh ... lemme see here ...
indoors , through window , clear sky ... about 30 seconds for a stable "good" reading .
outdoors , no thick cloud cover ... 10-15 seconds for a "good" reading .
in both cases , my experience has been that at least six birds came up very quickly .
    (i am using a '30)

In my experience... UBlox takes a second or to longer for the fix... But it is more steady over time. This is with any UBlox GPS...

To do it "right" spend the extra $25.00 and get a Taoglas antenna from Digikey or Mouser...

    model number.... AP.10F.07.0039B

    notice the 25dbi gain.......

That is one small antenna!! Could that be used as a replacement for a stock antenna on a CF-30 with factory GPS?
I realize a cable extension would be needed. Could the bulky stock GPS antenna cover then be replaced with a normal one ?
    Thanks for any more info.

I buy those Taoglas antennas and then take the back off and resolder a cable long enough to reach the GPS.... I pain... But worth it. You can use a sharp exacto blade to cut through the solder. Desolder the old cable and solder on the new one. Then reflow the solder back around the back cap and you are done!
