I have a new CF-27, the screen is very dim, on its highest level you have trouble seeing it in low light, on its lowest there is nothing or maybe a few spots of light. Is this right??? or am I doing something wrong like switching something on or off. Thanks.

Thants a bit of a bummer. I have a good cf-25 screen and inverter. Could I fit that do you think or is there a voltage or other type problem, think the res is a bit lower on the 25 unit which is not a problem, just don't want to blow something.

Google might be your friend. If you google for a CF-25 TFT screen and a CF-27 TFT screen, compare them. If they are the same. you might be able to swap them. Of course best if just to open both screen casings and look for yourselve. Beware that using a wrong inverter might damage other components....

Yes that is a problem I could do without. Think I'll just play it safe, see if the guy I got it from can swap it out, though it was only $20, Think I have a parts machine, shame because it has not a mark on it. Thanks for your help MasterBlaster

Is the parts machine also a CF-27 ? The mark (mk1-mk4) can be seen inside (i forgot the exact place) or on the bottom case, starting with CF-27xxxxxxx. Also, if the parts machine is still able to boot, to an external monitor, the bios also shows you what mark you have. (each mark has a difrent specific bios.)

Not sure what Mk it is, but the model number is CF-27EA6GCAMBKB. The CF25FJF4DAM was working okay, I have stripped it down and done a paint job on it as it was a bit rough and will now put it back together. I have 2 other CF-27 on order should be here in a couple of days, think they are the same as the one above, but they are EA's.

I think you have a mk2. The CF-27E = Mark 2. More info can be found here: http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/cf-27

My cf-27 is also a mark 2 version (without the touchscreen). Pentium II - 300Mhz. 800 x 600 TFT screen.

Okay, thanks for the link 1st time I was on this one, will have to take a good look. I put the laptop on to a big old Sony 19" CTV and it works very well, so you must be right about the problem I think. I should be getting 2 more units tomorrow or Friday, I'm told in the same condistion, hopefully not with the screen problem. I have a feeling I do not have the correct drivers on for the touchscreen so I will be playing with that soon, have a drivers disc on the way. Thanks Bob.
