Have replaced the touch screen/glass with a piece of 1/8th plastic sheet. (Same plastic that would be the outer screen of old projection t.v.'s.

It's still somewhat flimsy if you press anywhere near center, but more so, I've managed a few minor scratches.

I am wanting to replace that plastic with tempered glass, and I think 3/16th will work, (I believe that is the thinest you can get for tempered), but the outer dimensions need to be 1/16th short. If I recall correctly, the glass somewhat expands after the tempering process.

In any case, if anyone has the width, height, and thickness of the touchscreen with the glass, I'd appareciate it.

I'd measure mine, but I've already disposed of it.

I don't know how much this piece of tempered glass is going to cost you but a new touch panel is available for between $50 & $100 and takes the the same amount of skill and work to install.
You can get a new touch panel on either eBay or from members of this forum. Just ask.

I would not go with tempered glass. Any side impact would shatter it. If you dropped your Toughbook on the side you would destroy the glass.

    Get a new touchscreen!

What is the life expectancy of a new touchscreen?

We don't know yet..personally I have zero failure rate with the new touch panel and fpc cable. One or two issues observed with TSPCB. Faulty connectors....be sure to tape FPC to immobility. Both were CF-19. Re-set and serious tape solved it.
    Explanation:
Panasonic changed to a sliding latch in CF-19 for instance. CF-29 has a spring loaded connector. (talking about the one on the TSPCB)

    Glossary
    FPC = Flexible printed circuit.
TSPCB = touchscreen power control board. Mounted inside the top lid on the back of the LCD.

I don't know if I really want to replace the touchscreen. It was nice when it worked, but I did not use it but only when I was driving and wanting to look at different screens for data while tuning.

The current piece of "plexi" is fine except for the minor scratches, and, the display does look A LOT clearer with it.

Before I took the touchcreen out, I did verify that everything was connected well and very stable. It was still a no-go.

You had the old panel style....the one with the built in issues.

I was just saying the new style is fine.

A screen from a non touch model with new screen protector might suit you. Some are/were polarized.

I have four or five CF-29 used screens in bezel, all wrapped up pretty by the folks I got them from. Assume TS does not work. I'll test one after a while. These are the front bezel and TS panel only. (these were sold as working but such was not the case on one or more)

11 7/32 by 8 15/32 or more like 21.5 by 28.5 ....looks they were measured with a metric device. I don't do metrics.
    Dimensions are TIGHT.

I recently installed a replacement touch panel in my CF 30 and I realistically expect it to last for years, until I replace this laptop with a CF 31 when the prices get within reach.
