I have a program at work that turns the NumLk function on and off as you are typing. It doesn't seem to be any specific keys or sequence, just random. I have been researching and experimenting but so far I have only disabled the actual NumLk keystroke. The NumLk is still functional so with the keystroke disabled I can't turn the NumLk off.
The strange thing is: it only does this on my laptops (all different Toughbooks). My desktop work computer NumLk stays on or off like it should using the same program. I want to completely disable the NumLk on my laptops so it never turns on again. Is it possible???

I should also mention this happens on both XP and Win7.

I work for Time Warner and we use a program called Icoms. It's highly secure software that I use a vpn to get to.

I can make the NumLk key stop functioning by modding the registry, unfortunately the program still makes the NumLk go on and off. I have found nothing in the Bios either. The NumLk function is the very bane of my existence.

I can't help wondering... is there any real advantage in not having NumLk, even if one doesn't use it very often (nor do I have a good reason to)

Or you could just plug in a fullsize keyboard; then it wouldn't matter cuz you don't NEED the numeric keypad and it can be any smegged-up way it wants to be...

I have tried an external keyboard but I am mobile most of the time so it's not practical for me.

I wonder if it due to the fact that the laptops don't use the standard 104 key keyboard? The ICOMS program doesn't know how to handle it. Does the ICOMS program run under Windows? Which version?
Can you choose a specific keyboard type or driver in either program? Maybe try using the default keyboard drivers on your laptop. Don't install the hotkey or any other keyboard drivers.
Have you tried a full size keyboard plugged into the laptop? Just to try and narrow down the source of the issue. See if it still does it. Maybe it's a oddball fluke with the keyboard controller.
