Did you use the Panasonic CF-29 Series Product Recovery CD-ROM Set or just a Windows XP installation disc?

If you didn't use the recovery set, you need to follow these instructions:

    Title: [ Install Instructions ]
    Model: CF-29E3 (mk2) Windows XP Pro SP2
    Operating System: Windows XP SP2
    Language: English(North America)
Release Date: Jan 26, 2005 Index No: 003338
File Name (Size): H-2004-0294.pdf (58.9 kb)

Thanks much TC! When I get my SSD, I'll use this install order and see if it makes the touchpad vertical movement better. Worth a shot!

I bought my CF-Y4 about half a year ago and am still loving it. I will probably upgrade to the Y7 in two to three years. Right now the Y7's that I see on eBay aren't cheap enough yet.

I am bidding for a w4 right now. It will kill the itch I have for a 4:3 toughbook and I will not spent a lot in the process while having a netbook like machine. The work issued thinkpad T61 I have atm is quite heavy for everyday travel.

I'll also try the circular touchpad and having no trackpoint to see if I can get used to it and decide if I'll invest in a sandy bridge one (j10). It's a shame the j10 with expresscard is so expensive.

I use a Y7 as my everyday laptop.

How's the screen brightness? I sold my 1400x1050 T60 for the lack of brightness in the display. The Y serie are amazing machines maybe we will see something like it with intel's new ULV=Normal policy.

Let me guess: You had a 15.0" T60. Those 15.0" 1400x1050 IPS panels turn dim and yellow rather quickly.

I'm happy with the brightness, but I did not do any comparisons before deciding on the Y7. (Weight and screen size were my criteria.) I have to say , though, that colleagues, who mostly were using smaller Dell or HP models, expressed surpise at how bright the screen was.

    Good luck.

Exactly but I've seen the 14" 1400x1050 T60 and they are not very bright either. The comment from Dave gives me hope.

Now those are old now that the MK 2 CF-31, MK 5 CF-19, and the CF-53 are out as well as the MK 2 CF-C1, CF-H2, and MK 4 CF-52. :)

How much did you pay for the Caddy on eBay if you don't mind me asking?

New genuine Panasonic caddy with CD-Rom drive for $68.00 w/ free shipping. Better deal yet, last night eBay had a new genuine Panasonic w/ DVD burner for a dollar more (shipping included).

In reply to TopCop1988 (in post # 52 of this thread) I used your chart to install drivers in correct order, but the touchpad still tracks better vertically than horizontally. This happens when I boot to a Puppy Linux CD too. I think it is a hardware issue. Either a cable not fully seated or I may need to (eventually) order a new touchpad assembly (if this irritates me enough to bother).

Otherwise, this laptop is in excellent shape.

I've had my Y4 for about 1 1/2 years and glad I bought it. Been a great laptop. I am trying to find a memory upgrade at a reasonable price, if anyone knows......
