Just wondering if I am the only one - you all seem to have the military grade.

    Thanks - Lister

Lots of us have them, mostly CF-50 and CF-70 series. Find a post by Azrial and follow his link to search the forum. Welcome, and read the stickies.

Whatcha got? There are many that have the semi rugged here. The CF-51 core duo is real popular with cpu upgrades.

I have the CF F8 - you probably know it because it has the handle. Its a seriously sweet machine. I bought it and live in Tokyo and trust me, everyone here has a panasonic, literlally 90%. On the subway you see dozens of "salary-man" as they are known, with their panasonic mini tough books open. The range is called 'lets note'

The only minor issues I have is that the keyboard is in Japanese and although I have tried everything - I cannot get the keyboard to match the correct western drivers. But thats ok - i have gotten use to certain keys doing differnet things.

I basically wiped the HDD and bought a SSD to make the machine even more durable and slapped on linux and windows 7.

Do you guys all use the machines for outdoor work? - Curious to know.

    thanks

Well I use a CF-30 and have a mount in the work van for navigation. GPS is not built in on this one but broadband is. I need the broadband to do web based work orders.

Toughbooks are habit forming; you will always want another one. I am tripping over them and still want more. CF-28, CF-29, CF-30, CF-50 and CF-51. What’s next? Perhaps SSD for the 30

What is the difference between the semi-rugged and business-rugged?

Business rugged is LESS rugged than the semi-rugged models. The business rugged models are made of mostly plastic VS the semi rugged models are made out of magnesium alloy.

Personally I'd get a semi-rugged over a business rugged any day!

I took the plunge and now have and use at home /home business the CF-51 (cpu upgrade). I have three more 51's in the works 1 stock 2 broken but the price was very right. I like the 51 as a laptop as it is lighter, larger screen and the touchpad more responsive than my CF-30. The 30 will go in the truck when I get the dock installed. The thing I miss on the 51 v.s. the 30 is the back-lit KB.
I understand why the TP on the 30 is the way it is......use it with gloves etc.
    Toughbooks Rule.
