The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Does it really need to be so intrusive?

    This new toolbar holder.
Do you all see it or have I accidentally clicked on something that's released it from the spotty-teen hell I assume facebook to be? Got a hair trigger touchpad on this '52.
If it's here to stay please can it lose the drop shadow and stop jumping around.
I do appreciate that this is a free forum and the need for revenue but I don't see how this thing generates revenue... anyone enlighten me?
If it doesn't generate revenue then anyone know how to disable it?
    Thanks!

Changing from NEW NBR STYLE to NotebookReview Style in the drop-down box bottom-left of pages fixed it.
Didn't even know the style chooser was there 'til now.
Still like to know whether it was something I did - anybody?

I have NO IDEA what you're talking about...

2nd option: Just use TBT instead... No ads ;)

    I don't know either:
Between my host file and adblock+ I almost never see ads anywhere.....

Thanks for the adblock+ recommendation guys, so far works a treat.

Never bothered blocking ads before - I don't mind them at all until they go out of their way to be distracting.
I'd even argue that advertising can add graphic interest to an otherwise dull page and that at its best it's close to art.
But then there are the talentless twinkies who came up with that toolbar holder.
"twinkies" replaced a word ending in "uckwits" to avoid offending those twinkies who are easily offended. You're welcome. :D :D

I use flashblock, too. that thing rocks. 1/2 of the processor needed for a webpage is mostly on loading graphics (ads) and flash content (more ads, that take even more from cpu).

That cheeky bugger of a toolbar is even worse in Lucy. Its deformed and takes up half the bloody screen. You should all consider yerselves lucky that you run windows. I have half a mind of just dumping LTS and going for 11.10.

ares: if you in firefox, then install adblock + (and/or flashblock, which makes you click on the flash object before it is allowed to play/actuate).
check your /etc/ folder for the host file. replace it with this host file.

then your pc won't load any of the ad (like the ad was never there at all)

Oh my God! You just found the perfect comparison. Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Lucid Lynx (Lucy) in a nutshell. "A bossy, crabby, manipulative and selfish girl."
