I paid 100 bucks for a "genuine" hard drive caddy and its a piece of crap. What a waste. Anyone have a genuine caddy for sale?

Hmmm. I bought an aftermarket caddy on fleabay for one of my CF29's and I can't tell the difference between it and the genuine one in my other CF29.
The aftermarket cable works perfectly also, other than it came without a heater. -
I ended up destroying it. Nothing lined up anyways. I fitted it together without the hd in it and it never sat.

I bought one from a seller in HK - hmy706 - who did admit in the listing that it wouldn't fit as smoothly as the oem one. It was so crudely made it looked like children had built it with hand tools and no pattern to work from.
The connector is fine though and the case is easy enough to straighten if you know how.
Was $39 + $10 to ship. No heater. I'm happy-ish but can't decide what feedback to leave...
I got pretty much what I expected but it just gnarls my engineering goolies that someone could bugger up something so simple. -
The genuine caddies can be "challenging" to assemble also.
I am not doubting your word, but I think it would help others on the forum to have detailed reviews /comparisons ( photos ) of these aftermarket products. -
Hi Shawn,
yes I have an oem caddy - I've more than one 29 and other TB's - and difficulty in assembling this one isn't the issue although making it fit the slot in the laptop without sticking might be an issue for some.
Angles were 88 or 92 degrees and that irritates me a lot. The folds weren't made competently at all and in other aspects the QC fell far short of acceptable.
It's not as if it can't be made accurately for the same price - it can.
A simple go/no go jig would have enabled the manufacturer to get it right even with hand tools.
As I write this I'm at work and surrounded by machine tools that we use to manufacture products from sheet alloy.
Sorry too busy for a review or even pics ATM. -
I laughed because it reminded me of another story.
I was going to Vo Tech school at the time for electrical trades. The machinist teacher was a real cool older guy whom I chatted with when I had a chance.
He told me a few years back he decided to re-shingle his roof. he had never done any roofing before so he ask for advice from a roofer.
The roofer said to keep the rows straight and measure diagonally when your done. If it measures the same diagonally, then it's square and you're good to go.
The next Saturday the roofer gets a call from the machinist. He was done with the roof, but was concerned that it wasn't square. He got it to within .010 (10 thousanths of an inch), but he could not get it square.
The roofer, of course, started laughing because his tape measure only reads to 1/8" and anything near 1/2" was close enough.
It's all perspective. I used to HATE plumbing because it tends to leak if not sealed properly. Now I work on pressure washers. Boy, 40psi plumbing is simple compared to 3500psi. When they leak, you get a shower not drips. -
I have some on eBay at $59 inc heater, couple of guys on this forum bought and r quite happy... Very close to the original in terms of quality... I'm tech.time on eBay
Peace -
@ techtuff
Even though yours is more expensive by $25 (including S&H) I have to agree that the heater and the quality make yours the real bargain of the two caddies.
I didn't need the heater (SSD) and knew I'd be able to correct any fault the case might have so it made sense for me.
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone else though.
edit: I can tell from your ebay pics the quality of yours is good compared to this one. -
