Anyone happen to have a CF-28 hard drive caddy and / or hard drive cover for the CF-28? Mine is apparently lacking it :(

    Thanks

They are hard to come by, and sadly alot of places that sell their Toughbooks off like to strip them out to make sure their data doesn't get out in the world.

Some places will sell you one on eBay for $100, but make sure you get the right one. The ones that go in the 600MHz model are smaller (Height) than the 800/1GHz models.

Any idea if a 600mhz caddy will plug into an 800/1000mhz machine?

I remember doing the reverse for testing, but couldn't fit the cover plate on.

Supposedly the 600Mhz model will not fit the 800 or 1000.

i thought all cf-28 were the same no matter the 600mhz/800 or 1ghz,
well thats some thing knew i learnt today, about the 600mhz caddy not fitting into a 800mhz or 1ghz model.....
is there much of a difference, no chance of trying to fit it???????

I have no idea what the difference is... Or why there is one... Just that I've read that there is and it won't fit. As with anything... Where there is a will there is a way!

I know the 800/1ghz units have an odd feature- the flexPCB that wraps around the hdd includes a heating element. One of the manuals mentions that if the laptop doesn't boot immediately in extreme cold- you have to wait a few minutes for the lubricant for the bearings to get in the safe range.

My Dad has a 1ghz model I got him for Christmas- I'll hve to stop by and take a few comparison pics of the caddies.

I've got both a 600 MHz and a 800 MHz model CF-28. The 600 model due to a jackass ebay seller who lied to me. But anyways...The 600 MHz model hard drive caddy is 3/32 of an inch shorter than the 800 MHz. The cover to the drive caddy (black cover, complete width of the laptop, on the bottom, held with 2 sliding thumb push pieces) of the 600 MHz has a rubbery coated stainless steel structure. The 800 MHz hard drive caddy cover is painted black, and is magnesium. The covers will NOT interchange!! But now that I look at them, the 800 MHz magnesium model has no rubber which fits into a molded groove (on the bottom of the laptop) which would make me wonder if it is waterproof or not??? Hey Toughbook, is your 1 MHz model like that? Anyways, I hope that helps. I'm too new at this to post pictures, dont have a clue how to anyways :)

    I don't have a 1Ghz model... I have 3 800Mhz models. (Hopefully soon to be 2 CF-28s)

The entire compartment stays dry due to an O-ring around the entire bay. At least on my 3 it's that way.
