Well, I can not find them on any of 4 download sites
I would suggest that you download the drivers for the cf-vdl02 and try them instead
I have the cf-vdl02 and I think the main difference between the 01 and 02 is the screen size

    voyageeland,
I believe I have them, I'll look and get back to you. Welcome to the forum, we need more Toughbook "carputer" research.
EDIT: Yup I've got it, post up your email and I'll send it to you, or I can wake young Rob up and get him to host it.

Why are they so hard to find?
I looked on all panasonic sites, and could only find the drivers for the 02 12" display
Some of the sites even went back as far as the cf-25 which is a really old model
Whats with the 10" model is it rare/old or what?

    Alex,
When I get back from my sunrise meeting I'll look for them on my usual places. I really can't remember where I found it, probably 3 years ago when I got my first CF-VDL01. It is in the old format with the open box logo called a Paquet Builder. I do have some sources for drivers and manuals which are a little less known than the usual suspects. Long nights on the dredge trying to stay awake give a lot of surfing time.

    Jean,
What computer are you trying to use the external monitor on? You are going to have to go into your control panel and adjust the settings for the CFVDL01. You may even have to go into device manager and remove the existing driver and install the VDL01 driver for the external monitor only. I can't tell if you are comfortable with this procedure from your posts to date. Do you have the manual for the VDL01?

The VDL01/02 uses the same touchscreen driver as your CF-M34 it is the Universal pointer device driver. (UPDD) so you only need to go into your touchscreen utility and change the com port to where the VDL01 is connected. Then run the Calibration from the VDL01.

Edit: I should clarify that it uses the same driver as your CF-m34 if it is a MK3 or lower.

It seems that the VDL01/02 sends a power on command to the toughbook over the serial cable. This is in the event that you have the Toughbook mounted in the trunk then you can turn on and off the toughbook with the VDL01 power button. This can probably be tapped into to turn on your other devices.

    jayfryar,
Panasonic.ca>customersupport>softwaredriversandfirmware>cfvdl01 and you've got it. The native resolution is 600x800 so set display 2 for that or the touch screen will not work. It will sort of display higher resolutions. The F.A.Qs posted at the beginning of the forum are great for this information.
    CAP
EDIT: This all will work with the 02 as well as the 01, just look for the 02 driver and adjust the resolution for 768x1024. I don't know why I assumed you had a 01.

As Barney Fife used to say.... "Andy, just ZIP it in the bud! ZIP IT!"

Just zip up the EXE file and then you can email it... Yes... I remember when I was young... ahhhhhhh...

    Rick,
It is zipped! Outlook won't let you send a file with a .zip extension. I keep forgetting to take the "p" off the end of the file extension and have the receiver put it back on. There was a method to my madness? Look for a PM.

Really? Which version are you using in Outlook? I don't recall ever having that isue... But then I don't email a lot of zipped files... I used to but not much anymore. What about a RAR extension? Maybe that's what I'm thinking of. Most of the old phone hackers used WinRar which is what I started using a few years back. Even though I paid for WinZip.... Go figure... They will both open each other but the RAR extension may work...

    Rick,
Really! Outlook sees a .zip file extension as an executable file and refuses to send it, even as a attachment. You can remove or add letters to trick Outlook, ie, to send a driver x@#$%y.zip, you delete the "p" like this x@#$%y.zi and send the driver as a attachment. Just tell the receiver to put the "p" back on before trying to un-zip the file. I explained the reason for not doing this in my PM this morning.

    We have two problems here.
    1. I take it Win MCE refers to Media Center Edition. I have no idea what sort of hash up that might be, maybe its just XP with some extra bells and whistles, but I have never seen it in a driver compatibility list. You're on your own there.
    2. I presume the "test computer" is a Panasonic of some sort. You're not dead yet but close. You need to get the display working again, open up device manager or DMI or whatever and find out who made the touch panel, its just a device, not part of the LCD. Look for a driver for the touch panel, probably on the manfacturer's web site and try to get that into your Dell. These guys make a lot of the touch panels used in carputers, pos displays, and stuff like that.
    http://www.touchkit.com/index.asp
I have one of their drivers in my CF-30 for one of my non-Panasonic remote touch screen displays, it works fine, but it controls the port the touch panel is plugged into, not all pointing devices. I cannot imagine what would make you think the Panasonic UPDD would work in a Dell, it drives everything, touchpad, touchscreen, etc and replaces the Windows mouse drivers when installed.
    Good luck, you'll need it!
    CAP
EDIT:There is some information on the UPDD here:
    http://touch-base.com/

The driver from the Canada site should work on any computer. I recently installed it on an old Toshiba portege running Xp with no problems. The UPDD only controls the touchscreen in this case and it must be connected to a real serial port like com1 or com2. The driver is provided by touch-base and uses the Gunze controller. If you have a CF-28/29 the touchscreen and Touchpad are not replaced by this driver as they use a different driver and are on the PS2 bus not serial ports.

    jayfryar,
At least CF-VKBL01-03, I'm not sure if there are more models after the 03. The main/only? difference is in the type of keyboard installed, ie. rubberbacklit, emissive chicklet, etc.

The keyboard plugs into the dock so technically you can use any USB/pS2 external keyboard. The only thing with using a non PDRC keyboard is you wount have the function keys F1-F5 available at the monitor.

If you have the Function key cable connected between the keyboard and the monitor then the monitors function keys will have the same function as the corresponding FN keys on the keyboard. Their function will be dependent on the application you are running for example F1 = help F3= search F5= refresh. You can find all the manuals at www.panasonic.ca

Look on the drivers and manuals sticky at the top of the forum for the manuals. There is no programming required, but you do need the "function cable" for which I have not been able to find a generic replacement.

I found that an Apple serial cable uses the same 8-pin mini-DIN connector. You can get these online at places like Monoprice.com, be sure to order the male connector on both ends.

The function cable sockets on the VDL display and VKBL keyboard are blocked at the top, which prevents a standard Apple serial cable from seating. You need to modify the cable connector by cutting about 1/4 of the outer shield ring at the top of the plug. I was able to do this with diagonals, but a precision cut with a Dremel would be better.

The driver is available at the Japan driver site, filename = cfvdl02_xp2k_d020849.exe
Same driver works for both CF-VDL01 and CF-VDL02. It can also be used with just the remote keyboard to enable its touchpad -- keyboard works without the driver, but not the touchpad.

File sent. Don't forget to save the file then change the filename extension back to .exe from .ext which it is currently, before you try to open it.

    Question :
    I've got a CF-18 toughbook with 1024 X 768 resolution
The monitor has only 800 X 600 resolution

Is it possible to keep 1024 X 768 on the CF-18 and let a 800 X 600 on the monitor.
    I've tried... but no success
    Thanks for your help
