Okay guys... I feel stupid on this one.... I built a CF-28 for a guy a while back and he took FOREVER to pay me! I put it on the back shelf and let it sit. Well... The guy finally finished paying me so I figured I would pull it out... run the updates, recalibrate the battery, etc.
Well... The guy didn't like the WLAN Client Utility I built on his other 3 laptops. I had to load the the driver... But not the program. He likes Windows instead. Anyway... I was talking someone through wifi setup the other day and that was the only laptop I had in a ready state to coach them through setting everything up. I installed the whole WLAN program so I could help them. I figured I could always just go back into Windows and check the box that says "Let Windows control the wireless device" ... Anyway... I wanted to update everything so it's fresh. However.. The card connects to the router... NetStumbler sees all the wifi hotspots... But the dang laptop will not pick up on my IP address.
Any ideas? I've tried the "repair" option.. I've tried swapping cards and antennas... Nothing works.
Any ideas?

While working in CMD COM I entered the ipconfig /renew... I got back an error saying "could not contact your DHCP server"
This thing is set up just like all the rest... That's what is ticking me off! -
If you manually configure an IP will it ping the gateway and gain internet access?
-
Nope... I'm going to try to uninstall the driver again and reinstall a diferent one. The card that is in there is the 400mw Engenious card but it takes the same driver I believe.
Working on that now...
By the way... For some reason even after I checked the box to let WinXP take over... It wouldn't take... It just came back as greyed out. -
Okay... Got it working.... Never mind. I just uninstalled the driver again and reinstalled it the way it was when I set it up... Without the utility-only the driver. (Since he wants XP to control it.) There must have been some sort of conflict somewhere.
Fixed!
Thanks! -
Look in msconfig & see if Wireless Zero Configuration is enabled under the services tab.
If that's not it, maybe the Windows Socket for your network connection has been corrupted by the Wireless Client software. You can spend days trying to fix the damaged connection, or you can nuke & pave as follows:
Uninstall ALL your network devices in Device Manager, uninstall the wireless client software, then power off & remove the associated wireless & combo cards. Power cycle machine at least once with no cards installed. Now, install a DIFFERENT model (don't care if its pci, pcmcia, usb) wireless adapter with drivers only, allowing Windoze to manage the connection. Set it up for DHCP, etc as you want. When it's up & running, you need to power cycle at least 3 times with that setup working... Winbloze is pretty tenacious about hanging onto old settings. After that, you should be able to reinstall both your combo card and the correct wireless card (drivers only option) as usual & Windoze should take over the connection.

This is what works FOR ME - your mileage may vary. -

I've had that work sometimes and not other times; I dunno what the issue was, so I just gave you what I know works every time.
