Durabook - Advantage of Durabook
Whats your take on this? I saw a few of these on Ft Dix a few weeks ago.

well I have noticed the toughbooks are the most expensive thats for sure

The Toughbooks in general have a very high reliability rating as they are made in Japan and panasonic has been doing this for a while
Other manufactures can pad the hard drive bay on a business class laptop and add some padding on the outside and call it whatever they wish
I would rather buy a used cf-74 before investing in this Toughbook clone -
makes one want a Dell xfr

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
I'll reserve judging a "Durabook" until I see it, but I highly doubt it's anywhere near Toughbook quality. -

Never take the notebook anywhere without the carrying case
A broken screen or case can be costly to repair. Prevent accidents by carrying the computer in a suitable carrying case.
I'll stick with the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK family, if you please. -

Fort Dix, is there still a Fort Dix? I haven't been to Fort Dix since 1965 and I can assure you that seeing it again is not on my bucket list!
CAP US11445959 (I haven't needed to know that number since 1968)
On the other hand they did have nice machine guns and free war suits -
No clones for me panasonic toughbooks all the way...

Looks like a discount version of the "Business-Rugged" line of ToughBooks... I'm not impressed.
*Puts on his flameproof jammies, mindful of where he is*
With the XPS family, Dell has really stepped up their quality of build in business-class, and I'll bet they are easily as rugged as that thing at half the price. I've been flogging an XPS1330 every day for 2 years as a PC & TV diag platform (It came with both VGA and HDMI) and I have been forced to grudgingly admit that it's been a good machine; it has survived a dozen spills I thought for sure would be the end of it.
I realize it's still about as rugged as a taco shell in comparison to my CF-28; for automotive diag and contracting work I'd NEVER give up my ToughBook. But I do a LOT of different kinds of work, and for me it's a matter of the right tool for the job. The XPS1330 fits inside my general electronics toolkit; the CF-28 WEIGHS AS MUCH AS MY ENTIRE TOOLKIT BY ITSELF.
Game over. No aching shoulder for teh win.

I need to go Whee. -
Get a M4 tactical sling. I'm thinking of that cause the only secure way I can carry is "man bag" style.

They keep saying accidental

I have a durabook here that looks nice in many aspects if you called it a slightly rugged gaming computer (Core 2, DDR2, widescreen, camera and a bunch of other great features) but any real use you could make game-wise on these specs is killed by an Intel IGP solution.
The only thing I see that makes it even remotely close to the toughbook is the rubber/metallic case. Otherwise it's not really something I would take out into the woods. -

What's all the complaining about dropping it out a window... with that Win98 powerhouse? Dropping it out a 3rd story window was just putting it out of its misery...
