Personally I'd like to see more picture to see the condition but it looks like a great setup if you can get it for a good price.
-
Looks like he's got 4 of those - same picture. And the member id has changed recently, not sure if that means anything.
-
Hmmmm... I didn't notice that... Good eye Ken!

Well...
looking at the photos that are there, I can see that it has a silver handle and no key, which means it is at least a Mk2 or Mk3 as advertised. It bothers me that no claims to functionality are made in the auction, however the seller does offer a money back guarantee. The seller's low overall feedback indicates that they simply may not be experienced in making compelling auction listings.
Digging into his feedback shows that he has sold 4 other Toughbooks using this same exact listing & photos, and he has 3 more listed besides this one, also using the same listing/photos. The photos you are seeing are NOT of the particular laptop you are buying obviously, however, those 4 recent completed listings all have great positive feedback.
I'd say this guy just happened to get his hand on a lot of TBs just off lease or replaced because of useless RIM cards( they use analog cellular, which service has just been discontinued by all carriers in the US), and he's looking to turn them over for a profit on eBay.
They're bringing a good price; his completed auctions all closed in the $450 range; but they are listed as complete with docking station and usable amount of RAM. My guess would be that people who are bidding are hoping they get one of the Mk3s with 512MB on the mainboard and that's why they're going so high.

I contacted the seller, he does not send to Europe
It are all MKIII, and he say that all the port covers exept one are in place
I was looking for a second unit for a friend.
It seemed a correct price for here in Europe (look at the prices in the UK)
-
Do you want me to bid on one for you? I'm the toughbook international goodwill ambassador you know
-
Ooooh, the take-one-for-the-team guy?
-
thanks Gravitar,
It is not for me, my friend can wait, there be others that sell to Europe

Did anybody buy one from this guy? I got really good responce from him up untill now. Yes I did buy one, have not heard from him in a few days. starting to get worried.

They've got to have a minimum of 20 positive feedback AND a history of selling high-dollar items before I will bid/buy from an ebay seller. And don't think Paypal will save you... I just got stiffed a month ago when I bought a CF-28 with DVD and all the extras. I paid $324.... After not hearing from the seller Paypal finally refunded me only $200. They really tick me off sometimes. If I only knew someone in Morganton, NC I'd have them drop by and pay a little visit! Actually a LARGE, HEAVY, PAINFUL visit!

right on!!! love to hate ebay

As long as we're complaining about ebay, take a look at this one: 270211288622
Now, shouldn't I have expected to get a CDROM drive for a 27 in that lot? The description sems pretty clear to me. So do you guys think I have the right to be a little upset when the seller told me "its untested.. sorry.. all sales final"? -
I am starting to think I have been taken on this one too. Still no show on the HD caddy. I paid too much but I needed it and the seller seem to have good feed back. Now, after I have paid I see a recent neg. feed back.

My Ebay/PayPal story..
About 6 years about I bought a Garmin Street Pilot III through Ebay and used a Discover Card through PayPal, thinking I am covered with the Discover Card Right? No and then Yes.
Seems this seller sold about 30,000 in electronics. I bought this on a Friday and was not able to get a hold of the seller all weekend. About 20 of the buyers were able to connect by looking at the items the guy had sold, we then starting email.
Well the story was the guy died over the weekend. Further investigation found that Monday morning his paypal account was cleaned out. We even found his obituary! Well after contacting Discover, local police where he lived, district attorney, PayPal on an on, Discover determined that they did what they were suppose to and that was pay paypal. PayPal was NO help. So there I and many others sat out big bucks, 895 for me.
Well after about a year of fighting and threatening a call a action law suite against Discover and PayPal, guess what, we got our money back!
You just never know.
I have bought a 2,500 piece of 2 way radio test equipment off of ebay, but asked the seller for a phone number, we connected and everything went fine.
No question there is always the possibility and I believe ebay and PayPal do try.

I got an email from another buyer who purchased a cf28 from the same seller. He asked if I recieved mine, he hasn't gotten his either. Not a good sign. I had an email like this once before, but it was a prank that someone was playing on me.
Rick H. how did you get the information about the seller to report it to the police? -
Well ebay has changed since then and you can not see the buyers user name [I think]. But I look at the sellers other items he sold and then look up the buyer users name and then sent them a message, someone started gathering all the email address and thats how we got together. Someone looked up his business name that was in his user name and worked it backwards. Did not take long to find him. Never did find out where the money or any of his family went!

I quess I need to start sending emails to the buyers who did recieve their machines and try to get an address that they were shipped from
-
Good News.. sort of. The HD caddy arrived today. It came USPS; took aobut 2 weeks to get here. I emailed the other buyers fo the CF-28's all but one of them have recieved theirs. The one that hasn't, bought his 5 days before I bought mine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

USPS is the s-l-o-w-e-s-t lately that is has ever been. I sent a package to VA from GA and it took nearly 3 weeks! I stayed in touch with the buyer the whole time or he would have freaked for sure. It finally arrived though....

What was PayPal's excuse for the partial refund? Administrative costs, or was that all they could pull out of the wanker's account? I mean, the partial refund admits wrongdoing on the seller's part; this means you should expect FULL reparation.
