It originally had a BIN of $500.00 or Best Offer...

    Hmmmmm.

    Seems a little strange...oh well...

One of our members here bought it, so we'll see what he says.

That is a nice Toughbook, and at $500 it wasn't a horribly bad deal, but I'm not sure what kind of drugs he was on to think he could get $700 without any mods to it.

I would never have thought of offering HALF price. Good deal for someone at 425.00 if as described.

That was me that made that offer. We will have to see where this goes. The guy has good feedback so I don't think he's a flake. I'm going to request his contact info and give him a call before doing anything else. Something just doesn't add up unless he just needs the money.

When seller's offer to take offers on Ebay send in an offer. They can either accept, counter, or reject. They can't come through the wire and choke the snot out of you....

I got the contact info and called the seller this morning. I think he was a little shocked by that but that's business. Nice guy he just needs the money a lot more than he needed the Toughbook. I'm semi protected in that I paid with Paypal. While I hate that thing sometimes it works out. The proof will be in the box when it arrives.

Paypal only refunds "up to $200" on your purchase. I am still out $234 from when I was stiffed by an ebay seller. I bought a CF-28 several months ago and still haven't received it! If I lived in Georgia I'd drop by his house with Vito and the gang.

On a similar note, I ordered a transmission rebuild kit and paid with paypal... It's missing some parts, and he's not answering the phone or his emails.

Little does he know, living out there in Salem, Oregon... I'm moving 25 miles away, so if I don't get a word back he'll get a visit.

On the other hand, my total bill was $204.

Don't you just HATE that? I'll bet the missing parts go into the center of the tranny too... Right? Not just 2 screws that go on the outside. That's the way it always works.

Mmmhmmm... for Modly's Hearse? I'd guess it had either a PowerSlide 2 speed, or a TH-400 3-speed. Either way, those units usually eat Low & reverse bands, clutch packs, & Servos/accumulators. What Modly probably received was what the seller DIDN'T need to get his tranny going; which means of course, it's prolly some of those very parts that Modly needs to fix his.

Hey Mod - do yourself a favor - don't cheap out & reuse your torque converter. Get a new one, or a reman from a reputable company like B&M. That old one is gonna be full of trash from when your tranny smoked, & it'll just dump it all right into your freshly-rebuilt one. Another thing you want to do - if you can, take your rad and/or tranny cooler to a tranny shop or dealership, they'll usually charge you $25-$35 bux to hook it to a flush machine & flush that; it's cheap insurance. If not, go to Homeowner Hell & get a gallon of Isopropyl Alcohol & whatever funnel & rubber hose confabulation you need to hook up with so you can fill up your cooler, let it sit for half an hour or so, then blow it out with compressed air. Depending on how big you cooler circuit is, you can usually get 2-4 fillings from the gallon; be sure to back flush AND forward flush it. DON'T FORGET the tranny lines when you're blowing out with compressed air; I've had chunks get caught in couplers and drive me NUTS trying to trroubleshoot. The compressed air not only clears things out, it lets you know things ARE cleared out.

I'm missing some bushings (Toughbook had it dead nuts too... they go right in the middle), and I need some bearings (one of which needs to go into the transmission first before anything else).

It's a TH400, and I'm going all out on this puppy. I did get a new torque converter (custom made from Hughes performance), and all the heavy duty clutches I could get. I had to get a new front pump because that was the cause of failure before. Either it wasn't checked or it was put together dirty, but it ended up galling itself to death after it caused a nice .150" groove on the back casing.

I'm also taking this opportunity to add braided hose for my cooling lines. I love AN fittings :D

I got burned also. EBay sent me a notice that said I should, "seek all means available to recover my money". They removed the item and sellers information. How do they expect me to recover anything without even knowing the contact info? THey did refund $200.00. The item was discussed earlier on this site you might remeber the post.

Be sure the check EBay's protection limits. They only cover $200.00 on item from seller with less than 50 responces and 98% pos feed back.

Paypal put $200.00 back into my account. They closed the dispute. EBay has removed the contact information...case closed? Not sure what else I can do. I talked to my bank (US Bank), both the 800# and local manager assured me that I would get my money back however they have cahnged their tune now.

Paypal and bank said to file a police report. Against who? Paypal has removed anything I might use to recover my money. Shouldn't they either provide the information about the account or pay up?

I never paid attention to Paypal gauranty until this... will fom now on.

Is there something else I an do?

That's part of why I never use my checking account to pay for stuff, I use the debit card attached to it. This means I can call Visa, tell them some wanker didn't ship the item in question, and problem will get taken care of.

Get a rope! A few old fashioned "wanker" hangings would probably clear up the problem.

I did use a debit card. They said they would take are of it but later told me too bad. Do you have to hassle someone?

It is a VISA card should I try them? I thought calling the bank that issued it was the same tihing.

The one time I had trouble with not getting money back, I called Visa directly, because they have the power to do everything related to the account.

On a side note, a few hours ago I sent the guy that I ordered my tranny parts from another email.. indicating that I am moving to his area and would pay him a visit. You better believe that got a response. So when a few parts are missing, but they are all low dollar... it's ok to ignore emails, but tell him you'll show up at his door... he gets on the defensive.

That's precisely why PayPal makes you jump through hoops to use a credit/debit card. You always have the option to do a "charge back" if the seller doesn't perform. PayPal talks big about security, but I don't think they really care. My eBay account got hacked, no one lost any money, but PayPal has the name of the bank the guy tried to use and the account #. I have asked several times if they contacted the cops but they always get real evasive and don't answer, In short, cya, they dont! I wonder if the guy in Oregon knows about Modly's ink, piercings, and his ride? Maybe a little more than he bargained for?

One look at Modly's new girlfriend, who has more "ink" and "piercings", than the man himself; and the wanker will most likely soil his trousers.

Boy that is Sad to hear sorry for your Loss. Its good policy to NEVER order anything over $200 anyway from someone with 98% feedback and less than 50 feedbacks.

Thats the FIRST thing I look at when buying an item that costs, is Feedback number of and positive ratings.

I've been ripped once on Ebay and that is how I got my Negative I didnt deserve, they NEVER sent my the DVD movie and then after leaving Neg feedback after month or so, then they right away Left ME ONE! LOL I HATE ebays policy on feedback retaliation feedback should be cancelled.

Just a follow-up. The seller sent the 28 as promised and it was almost exactly as described. He drilled a small hole in the pcmcia door for something but it's not that big a deal as I already have an extra one. Hole could easily be filled with a little JB Weld.

Yeah, I was bidding on a couple and got a little careless. I understand the policy much better now.

I too got a neg feed back after filing a complaint on a seller who hadn't shipped. She final did ship about 60 days late and the item was obviously damaged and smelled foul. I think she may have intensionally "doctored" the item, needless to say, I couldn't use it. She was later removed. I tried to have her feedback removed but no luck.

Back to my computer. I talked with the seller on the phone and by email. He had all the right answers, he even gave me a complete model number and exact shipping. I thought he was good.
