We got a CF-18 today and the "D" key was a little messed up. figured it had dirt under it, turns out the last guy had broken it and superglued it down. You can see where half of the retainer clip is on the keyboard and half is glued onto the key itsself. Nice, So while i fight to try and get him to send me another keyboard, anyone got an idea if i can fix this one? I guess i could try and glue it back down....ugh

Damn eBay, even though they had nothing to do with the broken D key.

Yuppers, you sure can. Look on eBay for guys selling individual keys - there are several. Typically cost you about $3-5 delivered for the entire key, plastic scissor hinge, and the rubber cup spring. I've salvaged MANY damaged laptops economically with these guys; though you need to find one of the big guys who sells keys by TYPE, not necessarily brand. Once you see the listings, you'll understand what I mean; they show you pics of the various types of key & scissor hinges; you pick the one you need & tell them which letter.

All better. He expected me to pay shipping and was kind of being a....well negative words. So i ran a check on him, found his office (not the po box they use) and drove the 45 minutes to say hi.

Ended up with an exchange and the guy was so scared he basically let me comb through the 80 something CF18's and take my pick.

I understand problems happen. I even get that i should be willing to cover half the shipping. What got me is he lives a short drive away and he was being a jerk with all this "i only deal through mail and ebay" crap.

All settled now. You would think when a guy tells you he plans to purchase 25 CF-19's come march, you would want to make him happy lol

Well... as far the "25 CF-19s" thing... sure, it would be great to hear... unless all you got is a @$$load of CF-18s... then it's kinda like giving an alcoholic a picture of two bottles of Jack. :twitchy:

And... well, you know... with a nick like yours and the Ninja Tux avatar... can you really blame the guy for thinkin' you might be a axe murderer and wanting to keep behind that 5th wall?

Not like you gave him ANY REASON to feel that was justified... :elvis:

We had originally emailed him about a CF-19 he had and inquired about how many he can get, pricing, etc so it's not like he doesnt have them or can't get them.

And i don't mind scaring people, it gets results haha

Who is STILL buying stuff on Ebay? Seriously. Move on, man. That place is a decaying rathole. Any illusory savings you make are eaten up when you factor in ripoff losses and the time you burn chasing nonsense issues around - with little or no help from Ebay, who gladly collects their ever-increasing pound of flesh up front and hangs you out to dry. After being there since like 1997 or something, I quit that place a couple years ago - for good. Its just not worth the time anymore.

    Dewed... you have issues. ;)

Really... I've been on eBay since it was echoBay; and yes, it's just like the bazaar in Ascantha; but there ARE deals to be had, and not ALL of us are frauds.

eBay has actually turned more into a haven for fraudulent BUYERS in the last year or so; all their "Improvements" make it EASY for an unscrupulous buyer to get perfectly good product, then extort money back from the buyer with the threat of bogus negative feedback.

The place has earned the jibe of "FleaBay"... it REALLY IS the world's biggest flea market, with all the risk AND all the fun that implies.

eBay is like Vegas - you should never take more there than you can afford to lose...

out of the hundreds of things i have bought in the past year or so, i have probably had one issue, which was resolved.

Your totally right, because of the few issues i have had the slue (spelling?) of toughbooks we have got off ebay arent worth it. I never should have paid $175 plus shipping for the pristine CF-28 that came with all the original stuff in the panasonic case. Or the CF-18 used for literally 2 months and sold to us for $300 even.

I still use ebay but you definitely have to learn the ropes. I bought a bobcat and drove all the way to Tenn. to pick it up and it was a total switch from what I bought.Luckily I saved paying till I got there but was still out the trip costs and time. The guy even had a lacky in his place to take any heat. I had to tell him I'd only deal with him to get him there so I could vent my anger.
What I want to know is why are all the cf29's on ebay lacking hdd optical drives and power adapters.

With most corporate or fleet customers there is no need or want for the user to change or add software, it’s all done by the technical dept, so the laptops are not ordered with an optical drive
Most of these spend their time in vehicle docking stations using the lind dc/dc adapter
When they upgrade they sell the laptop only as the docking station stays for the newer replacement model
I do wonder why the original unused adapters and restore disks don’t show up for sale as well

My house catches fire im getting the hell out!! haha nah i don't have an issue with the nozzlenuts at all, they have a tough job, but the majority of them love themselves entirely too much.

Of course most of them would say the same of Bounty Hunters. I'm talking of the real ones, not those tv show jokes or half these guys with a walmart badge and mullets.

If it's anything like my company's IT department...
Unpacking... Box goes to recycling... the manual & CD baggies go into the garbage unopened since IT has their own HD image to clone. AC adapters probably go into a box that goes into storage. But before that the IT guys'll pick up a few for themselves. The box then goes deeper and deeper into storage until several years later, a cleanup task is undertaken. At that time, no one remembers what the hell those adapters are for and thus are thrown into the garbage. The cost of the AC adapter in the whole budget is miniscule, and the cost to pay someone to sit there and sort the stuff out and sell 'em on eBay might not even break even and even if, slim profit.

From a single install, I picked up over 200 DVI-VGA adapters and needless to say, I stayed around afterwards and now I have CD sleeves to last a lifetime. I even sorted the paper manuals back to recycling! :) My Macbook Pro has a DVI connector on it, so I always have a few in my bag. When I make a presentation or whatever and the projector feed is only VGA, I just leave an adapter there for the next person to use (or someone to steal.) It's one of those useless-when-not-needed, priceless-and-nowhere-to-be-found-when-needed things.

We have a stockpile of toughbook adapters because of exactly those reasons. My boss bought a storage unit's contents at auction (we knew the previous renter, and had a good idea what was in there) for $200. That's how we got most of our Toughbooks, also :D

Thats the only one we ever did, it was hard to not let our excitement bleed through as we bid on it, because we already knew there was at least two CF-18's in there.
