Just wondering is it possible to install software that will grab gps data and send it p2p to another user who you nominate.

This could be activated by pressing a combination of keys that would indicate a emergency.

I think I heard of this for law enforcement computers, but is there software like this available to civilians

It would make a lot of sense especially for toughbook users who are commonly traveling or in the field.

Also the software could have a second feature.....If keys werent pressed on start up it would send the gps data to an IP

This would make sense for sirf technology which can pick up signals indoors.................

The normal position ident systems that I have run into have been hardware based
A separate black box has been used containing its own gps and a either cell or vhf radio to output data to a base station
That data is output at varied times, depending on cost to send data and the accuracy needed
This is changing rapidly as its new tecnology
I live in a rural area though , in a large city they probably use wi-fi

I have used propriety marine navigation software that transfers various data from the main computer to a slave
I believe it outputs the gps signal as well , but I am not sure
