I have a CF-19, MK IV. Did not purchase the GOBI when I bought it, but now I have it. Installed it and it is not recognized. Any instruction manuals, ideas, comments on how to do this? Really want to get away from having to transport MiFi with me everywhere I go. Any help would be appreciated.

How is this done? I don't want to jack it up.....Thanks for the link, have it downloaded.... Any switches internally? Just wanted to know...1 more question... Gobi came with 2 small black pieces, 2 larger black pieces, 2 small clear sticky white pieces and 2 long, thin, sticky pieces. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Read Rob's post about the CF-31. He explains how to do it. Also, in that zip file there is a pdf file with instructions.

AFAIK, no internal switches. Gobi is enabled or disabled in the BIOS with the tool that you downloaded.

I don't know about the extra pieces that you have. On my Mk2 I just removed the cover, mounted the Gobi in the slot, connected the antennas and set the switches. CF-19's thru Mk3 have switches.

Okay, thanks for all the help!! It's up and working great. Lessons learned:
    1. Do the install of the hardware. (2 small black pieces are supports that go under antennae on top right and left, they are marked. Still don't know what the four clear plastic pieces and 2 larger black pieces go to.)

    2. Download Ultimate Boot CD 5.* .ISO and make boot disk (Great tool and it boots a lot of utilities that are helpful, my CD drive was assigned as "T:", bizarre). just do a search for UBCD online.

    3. Get the download http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/562689-cf-52-wwan-retrofit-3.html#post7289044 to flash the BIOS. (Worked flawlessly)

4.Download the newest CSA software from Panasonic. After everything is installed, BIOS flashed, enabled in Control Panel, your ready to run it. Choose wisely. I was with Verizon already and moved my existing line from MyFi over to GOBI and was up and running quickly. It is better to talk to Customer Service during this as they will need the MEID number from your GOBI, it's the ESN for this type of device.

    5. Enjoy it!!!!!! So much better not having to tote around an extra piece of hardware to go online.

Still don't know what the extra parts are for and it bugs me!!!

    Thanks again

Just an update on previous post.... Appears "extra parts" may go into one of the other CF's that can use the GOBI2000. Have an IT guy looking at the 29 and the 52 to see. He only found the 2 small black pieces that I have spoken of and they go right where I said they did. I will let you know when I find out what they all go to....

Just tried using a normal floppy disk with DOS. It found my flash drive with the WWANEXE.exe files and I got this message:

"This program can be used only for Panasonic note PC (Calpella Platform)"

Is there something I did wrong? I think I'll try using UBCD4Win and post back with results.

I agree in principle -- but I have a wife and 9 yr old who won't let me in the car without my MiFi, so they can be simultaneously connected as we travel.

I just upgraded to the 4G version and a friend said he thought its SIMM card could do double duty in the GOBI (for me normally) and then be swapped into the MiFi for trips - without Verizon seeing the difference. Anyone with experience/thoughts on this?

You tried this on a Mk3? Only the Mk4 requires the special program to enable WWAN. If you have a Mk3, dip switches set and the correct card, it should just work.

My MiFi from Verizon did not have a simm card to swap out and the GOBI does not need it on the Verizon network. I think AT&T and maybe sprint need the simm to work.

That's funny, both my Verizon MiFi4510L and 3G AC30 have SIMMs under the battery.

Would you happen to know the proper dip switch setting for a GOBI 2000 connecting to Verizon? It's currently set for "WWAN 3" IIRC. I will have to check tomorrow.

FYI, the card does not currently show in BIOS OR Windows Device Manager.

WWAN3 is probably correct. Try all 3 settings. The switch settings are for the card, not the carrier. If you are in the US you would use the Panasonic CSA to select the carrier. Is the Gobi card from Panasonic or some other manufacturer? Did you remove and reconnect all power to the laptop after installing the Gobi card?

Well to be honest, I don't know exactly how it was done.

I work at a computer repair shop and the local rescue squad brought us two CF-19's and said they have about 50 more if we can get them to work. The two they brought us had already been installed. What I do know is that they sent the computers to another place to install the device and they ended up canceling on those people because they took 3 months to even start on them.

I have already tried removing the card, taking all power from the laptop, installing the card and booting. It still will not show up in BIOS

The card is a Sierra Wireless Gobi-2000. The card came with the plastic pieces that others have mentioned, so I can only assume that these are the Panasonic-sold units.

I just janked a funny looking card out of a CF-19 today. May have been a GOBI card or a HSDPA card (not sure!). Anyways here is what I can highlight below TO TRY:

    1) Dip switch settings: Off, On, On, Off (Front left to right of course)
    2) BE SURE SURE SURE SURE SURE to pull the battery and the BIOS battery and hold down the power button for 10 seconds to drain any residual power before changing dip settings!
    3) Pictures of my work that I found today:
    4) Additionally here are the CORRECT settings confirmed for a GOBI 1000 card: http://toughbooktalk.com/public_dow...ect CF-19 GOBI 1000 WWAN Dip Switch Settings/ - On, On, Off, Off

    Good luck!

What would happen if someone didn't remove all power from the system board before changing the dip switches? Would the card be damaged? Would the WWAN section of the BIOS become corrupt?

It's doubtful that the card would be damaged or the bios corrupted. Just my opinion. What are the full model numbers of the CF-19's you are working on? What OS is installed?

NO! It just won't recognize the dip switch change!

Yep, it is. I did have the MiFi 2200 though. Maybe it is the 3G thing being that your on 4G, you may need it.
