I am about to lose my freakin mind on this one. Let's see if I can explain this going by memory. I am not at home right now.

I got a new monitor. The native resolution is 1920X1080 if I remember correctly. I cannot get the resolution up high enough for a clear picture. This is with my Cf-30 MK3. No matter how many different settings I try it just wont work. Now, here is where I go nuts. I docked my CF-30MK2 to see what it did. At 1st I was getting the same results, then I clicked on Resolution after right clicking the desktop. After a few seconds I got a message in the box stating that the monitor is not set to it's native resolution, I hit apply and holy cow the picture is perfect! It was so nice I was freaked out, never have seen such a wonderful screen from a Toughbook. I was juiced to say the least. I slapped the MK3 back in to duplicate what I just did. For some reason that box will not pop up asking me to set it to the native resolution. I have tried several different drivers, etc with no luck. Does anybody have any experience with this problem? The freakin driver on the MK2 is from 2007 or 08 if I am correct, and my MK3 is much newer

What are the video specs for each machine? One being touch and one being non touch, I imagine they have different video gpu's. Will the mk3 support 1920x1080?
Maybe try to force the older driver on the newer machine?

    Your problem is obvious.

From the CF-30 User Operating Instructions:

Display Method: 13.3" XGA type (TFT) with Touchscreen 13.3" XGA type (TFT)
    [ Internal LCD *5: 65,536/16,777,216 colors (800 × 600 dots/1024 × 768 dots)
    [ External Display *6: 65,536/16,777,216 colors (800 × 600 dots/1024 × 768 dots/1280 × 768 dots/1280 × 1024 dots)

*5 A 16,777,216 color display is achieved by using the dithering function.
*6 Maximum resolution depends on the specifications of the external display. Display may be impossible using some connected external displays.

    Max external display is 1280 × 1024

See if your external monitor will adjust to that setting.

I wish it was that cut and dry. If that is the case then why does one do it and another does not? In fact, the model with the lower GPU is the one that works. I am beginning to think it is something in my OS. For some reason my MK3 is not "looking" at what the native resolution is when the Clear Type program is used. On the MK2 when I use that feature it stops and changes it, it will not do that on my MK3 for some reason.

From the info posted it looks like the video is incapable of displaying on your ext monitor's native resolution

Look to see what the external is set to
btw external lcd displays always look better than the toughbooks , it's the price you pay for having a bright display

I can't seem to find what it's at, it just tells me to set it to the native resolution.
I agree with you 100% alex, but it still boggles me that my MK2 with the much older video driver can handle the monitor's native resolution.

I guess I am just going to have to live with it. I'm tired of messing with it.

Did you try manually setting the external display's resolution to 1280 × 1024 and then checking the results when switching Toughbooks?
