I found these while searching the net. They would make an internal USB mod a lot easier. Mouser also sells them.

    FFC 40 pin .50mm pitch

Nice... for a buck or 2. IMHO.

I really do like it, but you (plural) will need the ffc anyway. For a $1 more you can just get a heavier ffc and solder/hot glue the terminals.

Now if they had a 12 pin for cn51 (under kb for oem bluetooth) that would rock. I just tried stripping/soldering one of those cables... I'd rather just chew broken glass next time.

Maybe you can solder direct to those cables. The days of my eyes and hands being that stable are long gone. Why not try their 18 pin version and just keep the cable to one side?

I actually have kept the portions of a few dead laptops touch pad areas that have 12 pin ffc receptacles. I was gonna try and DIY Hot air rework to unsolder them, and try to something similar on my own. Maybe. Good in theory, but probably not in actual application.

and NO, I can't solder direct to the 12 pin cables: it took me trashing 2 ends before I got the usb data + & - soldered on succesfully. You can get the 40 pin ffc with the right size pitch on one end, with larger solder pads/loops on the other. They aren't too terrible, but they are still small.
