I recently purchased a second-hand FZ-G1 Mk1. Worked fine when I got it, but now I can't get the back light to work anymore. There is no response whatsoever to the brightness slider in Windows.
I can read the screen fine indoors, but it's very annoying to use outdoors.

I already tried updating the display drivers, and searched around on the Internet, but couldn't fix it.
The diagnostics in the BIOS also didn't find any faults, nor does it actually seem brighter while in the BIOS screen.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm starting to fear it's physically broken.
And that would lead to the next question, how easy would it be to replace?

If you can read it at all then I am guessing it does glow some?

Difficulty depends on your skill level.
Finding a good one will mean buying a new one probably.

    Photos would be good...
That we we know what you are talking about.

Yes, as said, it's perfectly usable inside. It just feels like it's constantly at 0% brightness.
I made a quick video demonstrating it, a picture didn't really show the problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8zuw12strrlklr4/20190716_213754.mp4?dl=0
(My apologies for what looks like vertical video, blame my phone for rotating it weird)

0% brightness is a black screen with nothing visible.

Maybe I missed it but what is the full model number of your computer and what operating system are you using?
Did you recently make any changes? i.e. did you upgrade from one operating system to another?
Did you add any "free" programs from the web? Did you go into Bios and double check all your settings? Do you have a backup that you can restore to?

Whatever corresponds to 0% brightness in Windows...

    Just checked, nope.

    FZ-G1AA-52CE
W10 that was installed when I got it
Probably installed some updates, apart from that nothing special, just stuff I've been using for many years.
I did go through everything in the BIOS, couldn't find anything strange.
No backups from before the problem started, sadly I only noticed when I tried using it outside and the brightness wouldn't adjust, so I can't pinpoint the exact moment it went wrong.

    Now we have more information.

Probably the brightness never was adjustable and you just noticed it when you went outside.

Did the original installer or you use OFFICIAL drivers direct from Panasonic? You need to use only official drivers from Panasonic.

Welcome to Windows 10. Odds are really good Win 10 updated itself and broke the drivers or they were never installed correctly.

I still think it's in concealed mode. Try to switch it on/off/on/off and/or press A1 and A2 buttons in BIOS.
    2) power pull reset.

upd. switch it = switch concealed mode

Sorry for the late answer, had a busy week.

I just reinstalled the display drivers from the linked source, made no difference. Or are there any other drivers that could impact this?

Concealed mode is definitely disabled in the BIOS, I checked that when it was first suggested. Unless there's some sort of secondary "soft" concealed mode I don't know about?

I definitely remember the device responding to the brightness setting, so it wasn't just a case of not noticing.

When i replaced my CF-54 screen with a higher resolution one it gave me intel driver issues in windows and i could only adjust the brightness during startup(hotkeys during bios). But under Ubuntu, it was working perfectly so i would suggest trying a live usb media of ubuntu to compare.

Just tried with Ubuntu booted from a USB, the brightness also doesn't respond there...

Edit: and now it works again in Windows, must've been the combination of reinstalling the display drivers and the full reboot (instead of this fast boot crap...).

Thanks for all the help! Let's hope it doesn't magically break again.

OK, what the heck. It worked fine for a bit, even worked in a live USB of Android-x86... And now nothing again. How is this possible?

I had some issues with the backlight of my mk1 G1, sometimes it just dims for no reason and sometimes the touchscreen stops working(but digitizer still works). Upgrading the bios helped a bit but did not fix the issue completely. I am afraid there is a part that is starting to fail in mine and replacing the screen(assembly) looks pretty difficult in comparison to the CF-54.

I don't even have that setting.

It appears to work again for now, I hope it stays that way.

Maybe it defaults to turn off backlight if not installed :))

Tell me please. What made the backlight work? I have a tablet FZ-G1 mk2.
