    Hi, I have a FZ-G1 (mk1) and a question about its pen/digitizer.

I have two other Wacom pens (one from an older Tablet PC and one directly from Wacom). Both these other pens work well in that they move the pointer and their side switch/right click works. However, these pens also got an eraser on their top and it does not work (not even the pointer shows / is moved by it).
I know that the FZ-G1 default pen does not have an eraser, but the Wacom digitizer should be able to "see" it, as it sees the normal stylus tip at the bottom and both use the same technology, right? So, I assume some driver/software setting is necessary to enable eraser functionality?
    Any ideas? Thanks.

(I already tried using the Wacom driver from http://www.wacom.eu/index4.asp?pid=9278&lang=en instead of the Win 10 x64 default driver; it installs and works with the normal stylus tip, but no luck with the eraser. I reverted back to the Windows built-in driver, because it has better calibration support.)

    Thanks.
I have done a bit more research on the eraser issue. First, some test results for the FZ-G1 digitizer:
    • Pens from two older tablet PCs work, but see below for the eraser end.
    • A Wacom Cross Executive Pen (capless version) works, but see below for the eraser end.
    • A pen from a Wacom Graphire 4 tablet (CTE-640) does not work at all.
    • A pen from a current Wacom Intuos pen&touch (CTH-680) does not work at all.
Behavior of the eraser end for all three working pens: (Both the built-in Windows 10 x64 driver and Wacom's newest tablet PC driver v7.3.2-12 from http://us.wacom.com/en/feeldriver show the same behavior with respect to the eraser.)
    • If you press the eraser end against the screen, it actually clicks there! Or you can draw a line, e.g. in Windows Journal. This confirms that the hardware works in principle.
    • However, no cursor tip is visible if you just hover with the eraser end.
    • No pressure sensitivity seems to be recognized; only constant maximum pressure.
    • Nothing is recognized (no clicks, no line) if you don't apply maximum pressure.
    • Even at maximum pressure, it is not really recognized as eraser (it draws a line like the normal pen end, instead of erasing).
What is so madding about this, is that the digitizer can actually see the eraser end of all older penabled tablet PC pens. So it should work in principle! But I am out of ideas, right now... :(

What are you running for windows, W8 or W10 ?? If it's W10 then that could be the problem. W10 still has a lot of bugs in it and not just Toughbook....all brands of laptops. The big problem is the display drivers. Maybe this is your problem too.

There should be a control button [A1] on the tablet that launches the Dashboard. From there a Pen and Touch button and inside the Pen and Touch option there is a Pen button option labeled "Use the top of the pen to erase ink (where available)". Make sure that is selected and see if you still have an issue. The TabletPC Review forum is the best place to go for tabletpc related issues.

my old flip notebook (wacom digitizer) had a pen that has the side click and the "eraser" end has a barely perceptible "click/detent" .
i popped in a spare drive and loaded mint 13 ... uuuggghhh ... same crap ... back to the windows HDD ...
the problem i had was that the eraser click was not being generated ... turns out that the pen itself was at fault.
i wish i had a simple good way to prove that such a pen is go/no go ... as a "stand alone" test when no other machines are available .

hmmm ... does anyone know the operational frequenc(y)(ies) of those clicky pens ?

    ps ...
do you know how to tell if a blonde has owned a machine you are buying ?
there is white-out all over the screen .

Thanks for your hints. As @toughasnails suggested it might be Windows 10, I installed Win 7 x64 on a second partition and tested the stylus there. Results are reported below. Unfortunately, I may have bricked my WWAN device in the process by installing a wrong driver that tried to flash its firmware! If you can, please help me in this new thread about my WWAN.

For the sake of this thread, here are the test results for the stylus in Win 7 x64:
    • Using the Win 7 x64 default driver (from setup), all three pens that worked in Win 10 (as described above), also work in the same way in Win 7. I.e. their eraser end still only moves the cursor if pressed against the screen, pen pressure is still stuck at maximum and no cursor is visible or moving if the eraser just hovers over the screen.
    • Using Panasonic's digitizer driver shows the same behavior.
    • Installing Wacom's Wintab driver v7.3.2-12: still the same.
    • @kingstu: Thanks, but the promising option "Use top of the pen to erase ink" was already checked. (Unchecking it made no difference either.)
    • @CWB32: I have two older Tablet PCs where all three pens work, including their eraser.
Does anyone have a Wacom stylus with an eraser and can confirm that it actually works with the FZ-G1? (If so, which stylus model do you use?)

Same identical problem here with a HP pro x2 612 g1 running windows 10 (not sure what it would be like on a lower win version).
I am under the impression a lower firmware (edit:I meant driver) level could help (google images shows screenshots of ISD_DualTouch_721-21.exe that look promising, but probably any 7.2.x would do).
At the moment I found only a doubitable version of that file on baidu... am trying to download it and then will pass it through virustotal... unfortunately it seems wacom removed the page relative with leacy drivers... so it's hard to find :(

I am not sure what you mean with "screenshots that look promising", but my currently installed Wacom pen app (based on ISD_DualTouch_732-12.exe) also looks promising, as it shows the eraser end of the pen and contains a sensitivity slider for it, but it does not work. I also tried an older version (ISD_DualTouch_712-9.exe) that did not work either, so I have little hope that ISD_DualTouch_721-21.exe would to the trick, unfortunately. But I would love to be wrong on this...
(PS: When you say "firmware", do you really mean it or are you referring to the driver? I am not aware of any possibility to flash the firmware of the Wacom digitizer...?)

interesting, my driver 7.3 shows only 1 button and a picture of the correct stylus for this tablet, unfortunately I also have an older stylus with eraser that I would like to use, it seems I am out of luck tho...
