I picked up a couple FZ-L1's and LOVE THEM!
But they have the barcode scanner on the back. It's removable and there are a series of pogo pins in there. I intend on pinning them out. I know several of them are analog pickups for programmable buttons and I am hoping someone here can tell me the Barcode scanner is USB, and so I could hack those pins for a USB port or hub/etc.
Alternatively, is there anything fun or interesting I could use the barcode scanner for? other than barcodes ;D
Google turns up few results.
Thanks!

You are a bad influence, because I picked up a couple after seeing your post on the For Sale forum. I bought one and after receiving it I went back and bought another one. They are nice little units for that price.
I don't know if the scanner is a true USB device but it acts like it is. I loaded Scanpet software from the Play Store and it interfaced without a hitch. Scanpet will use the device's built-in camera or a USB device; I told it to use USB and it worked immediately.
I intend to use the barcode scanner in an attempt to get some sort of handle on all kinds of stuff I have lost track of and can't find. The scanner works much better than a camera-based solution because it is much faster and much less picky about focus. I was really pleased at how fast it was to read a barcode at any angle. Scanpet software writes its output into an Excel compatible file that can be transferred to another computer for editing. It costs $2.49 to eliminate the ads from Scanpet free - well worth it in my opinion.
You can also generate and print your own custom barcodes to tag items you want to track. The only problem with all this is actually doing it...

Old Gator, did you install the Panasonic software update? I have not, because I don't know what it will change. -
I did; it was one of the first things I did after booting it up. I clicked on the release notes link but it gave me a server error or something, but I went ahead and installed the update anyway. I am not an Android person so I have no clue what it changed. I know there have been a lot of security fixes since 8 was released so I thought it advisable to install the update. Actually I was pleased to see it was available, many of the complaints against Android are about the number of manufacturers that fail to patch their systems. It went without any problems but I don't know what it did.

I would get one but the shipping here is expensive and really slow, it would double the price. Have fun guys.
