Hello, I was curious if someone had the technical knoweledge to tell me if I could conquer this task. I own a CF-28 MKIII, it's ridicliously clean for it's age and it came from the factory without Wi-Fi or GPS. I had an old MKII laying around with the factory Cisco 802.11b Wi-Fi built in. So I tore apart both laptops, removed the entire wifi from the MKII and installed it into the MKIII. Piece of cake. Now my question is this: I see a CF-28 MKI on eBay with the factory GPS Module, could I purchase this laptop (Which happens to be cheap) and transfer the GPS goodies and the antenna hump to a CF-28 MKIII without any problems? Basically my question is would I run into any problems trying to install a MKI GPS into a MKIII? I would like to keep the stock look of the laptop which is why I haven't really considered an aftermarket solution yet, nor was I going to rely on the GPS Module, I just thought it would be nice to haveif anyone has any information for me that would be super! Thanks!

Awesome thank you very much for your time! I will post my results soon.
Thanks again! -
Just know that the 28 GPS units are very sub-standard and don't work very well. There have been recent discussions from TB and others about simply adding a copper foil backing to the antenna to increase its ground which appears to be producing MUCH better results. You should search the recent posts on GPS in a 28/29 to get a better understanding. As Teo said though, it will work in your MKIII.

Yea, as for right now it wasn't a huge concern of the performance I get with the GPS, I am not a wardriver or anything, I just thought it would be cool to have, more or less, just to make the spec sheet longer, lol. I suppose later on I will look into ways of improving the componets of the laptop but for now I have a pretty decent base to work with and once I have the GPS unit in my hands, by my understanding, it will make aftermarket updgrades/updates much easier. And like I said too, I prefer the factory look and even though it is inferior to the new technology achieved in newer GPS units, factory components still add value to the laptop. (Not to mention conversation coolness
) All my buddies have Toshiba and HP laptops which are fairly nice on the performance side, but when they are laying on the floor and their kids are standing on top of them, there is a rise for concern. No concern for my Toughbook, go ahead and park a car on top of it
Also Thank you, I will look into the post for copper wrapping the antenna, sounds like a mod that would keep the factory look and add much more usefulness to the GPS. Thanks!
UPDATE: it seems I have lost the auction for the Toughbook MKI with the GPS. Looks like I won't be getting it afterall! But thanks to everyone who contributed, I apprecaite it!
