Can I get some forum feedback on our latest project ? Paracord 550 shoulder straps that you can clip onto the hinges (we will be including them) on CF-18, CF-19, CF-29, CF-30 units ?

These will be 115cm long = 45", so your toughbook will hang around waist level. Almost 4cm wide (1.57") and we will also be making a 55cm version which will snugly tuck right under your armpit, so you can carry it like a football under your armpit in case you need to move fast !
I also thought it would be kind of cool to have a strap that can be unwound into an 80 foot paracord, just in case you get stuck in a "Man vs. Wild" scenario, also figured might appeal to the Military market or anyone who wants a cool unique accessory.
If you don't mind, please let me know what color you guys prefer and I will have a draw in 2 weeks and will randomly choose out of the members who leave feedback. You can just say "COLOR CHOICE 1st one from left" , etc... since there are couple of green variety straps in the pic, will avoid confusion.
Have a great weekend !

Those are brilliant!! I like the last one myself, but nice job!

Great idea...I like #1 , 5 and 6.
-
Very nice! I like 5 and 6.
-
I actually like all shown in the pic. Looks great.

I like the all black one, the first on on the right. What price will charge and where do you you plan to sell them? I am interested in one. So many straps are so uncomfortable on your shoulder.
-
Interesting, a braided paracord strap for the cf-18, that’s cool, innovative, fabulous.
-
They all look great. I have no idea where you fasten them, but they look great. I'm partial to the dark olive drab (1st left) myself, or possibly the desert grey (is that digital camo btw?). I'd love one in fire bright red.
How much do you ask if you start manufacturing them?
EDIT: Do I have a crappy monitor, (very possible) or is the first on the right a bit blueish? -
Cool Andre! I like far Right colour!
-
1,4,5,6 on the colors. On stuff like this I usually go with a darker color myself because over time the dirt and other day to day crud will start to show on the lighter colors.
-
I prefer more classic straps (solid black/brown/grey), but I have an advice/feedback.
You may want to use better shackles. Because those on photo are dangerous for Toughbook - they can unfasten themselves randomly. It's my own experience
Also, for users of x-straps: beware, you have to check stitches near the loops. They are really weak and you can loose your precious Toughbook
P.S. Maybe something like this
or with screw-thread. -
The straps look great but I'm with BaRRmaley on this one.
I don't trust spring hooks, snap hooks, piston hanks or anything else that can be accidentally opened.
Even managed to have the metal dual-side-release buckle on the strap of my 19 let go once - had a camera over the same shoulder and I think its strap must have wrapped around the buckle.
Locking carabiners, preferably screwgate, for me too please -
I really appreciate for your feedback guys, getting your comments means a lot to me to make sure we make a quality product.
I will check with suppliers on the Carabiners with screwgate, in the meantime give me your feedback below on this attachment, see link please

Thanks again. -
That one is reliable, but inconvenient - construction must not have protrusive parts
p.s. Sorry, these English words are very unusual for me, have to use google translator often)
-
Also, your english is fine, mate. I've read worse from native english speakers. -

Myself I like the first one's and have used them before and have had no problems with them. I think it all comes down to taste...everyone will like something different. If a person don't like it just go to the. hardware store and buy what you like. I have 2 Toughbooktalk straps now and they are the same as in the first picture.
-
The more I think about it too, is there some way to weave the end down through itself maybe 2 or 3" more before melting the end. It just looks like it could slip out of there potentially. Just a thought...
-
Nice!
How are they on the shoulder of a nylon jacket or on a wet jacket?
You said you have a long model and a short model, maybe put clip a third of the way away from one of the ends so one could use that clip and clip the one on the end to it to keep the extra length out of the way. I often like to have my bag high across the back of my hips when going through crowds or on the subway. -
Very nice! The one on the right of the pic is my favorite - basic black goes with everything. The strap I use now has the same kind of clasps and I've never felt them to be anything but secure. My camera straps are the same, and I've never experienced a drop or failure of any kind... but I do like the ones suggested by BaRRmaley.

Thanks again guys for your comments, I will test whatever clips we go with VERY thoroughly since that could be the "weak link in the chain" so to speak, have ordered clip / carabiner samples from suppliers.
One of my tests by maybe swinging a toughbook on the end and pretend I am going against GoliathAny other testing suggestions are welcome.
Peace -
I like #'s 1 and 6, or is it 6 and 1, Drat! I don't KNOW!!! I'll just say the outside ones.
That's a good idea, para cord is some tough stuff! We had some that was about 1/16th of an inch when I was 'in' years ago. I do like the Carabiner idea, even if it isn't a screw down one.
Do you have the D rings that screw to the back of the toughbooks too? I got a set on an SBC book i bought a few years ago, Love em! -
I like 1 & 6 the most!
But as an idea, you could do a " Thin Blue Line" version for the Police and a " Thin Red Line" for the Firefighters.
Nice job! -
Techtuff... AWESOME job! They look great. You have a lot of cool product! Kudos for you to sticking with it.
I like all the straps personally and would trust the clips... If you DID change them... I'd go with something like this...
(Sorry for the large pic!)
-
I have had a problem with the type of clips that are shown in your picture on equipment in the field. The plastic ones are strong enough when pulled straight down, however under any kind of side load, and this is prone to happen under any even semi-tough usage, the thin plastic gate piece will deflect enough when pulled from the side for the clip to release.
Hold the clip rigidly in one hand, with the hook straight up and down in the hand and grab the strap your other hand, pulling from the side. Give the strap several jerking tugs from the side at off angles and you will see what I mean. As the gate is flexed from usage it is far more prone to this failure.
The first time that one of these failed me and dumped my kit on the ground I could not believe it as the hook was still undamaged. But the above test proved it to me! I would not use a plastic one with the flat plastic gate on anything approaching the weight of a loaded CF-29.
YMMV... -
Looks great; lotsa work in them!
-
Color choice #6 and #1 in that order
-
I like this much better that the factory carry strap for the CF-18. I like the solid black personally.
-
I like the design.
Are you using Commercial grade 550 or proper MIL-C-5040H type III ?
Parachute cord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most of the stuff I see claims to be 550, but turns out to be unrated commercial grade crap, sometimes it's not even 7 core.
Mil spec stuff should have 1 of the 7 cores colour coded, identifying who manufactured it. -
I also like the numbers 1, 5 and 6
Feedback please on Paracord 550 straps for Toughbook CF-18, CF-19, CF-29, CF-30
