29 does not accept sata drives, even the mark 5 is still an ata drive

Really? I'm terribly sorry - from other forums I was under the impression that they had switched over to SATA when they altered their architecture to support DDR2 RAM...

    You're CERTAIN of that?

He's correct, none of the 29s use sata.

I know it's a little more money, but this place has a 200GB 7,200 rpm SATA drive with 16mb buffer for $130 with free ground shipping. Best part is that it's a Hitachi :)

I would have gotten one of these but opted for a SSD.

So what would it do to my toughbook (and is it possible) to upgrade the processor? Is it worth it? On a MK5 CF-29. This is an de-mil toughbook, and the product code for this toughbook says that it is a bare bones model. Touch screen, no WIFI, no GPS, chicklet style keyboard. I would like to cut, hack, bend and mod this thing to the ends of imagination........ any help would be great. I am presently looking for a PATA to SATA crossover connector from a privat sourse in another country but not going so well. Any ideas and tips/tricks would be useful. The poor thing was srtipped of all it's components ....HDD and caddy, Optical drive, battery, power cord, and of course no software. This is going to be a ground up build I guess.....but what the heck...it was free and I'm in the desert.....what more could an Aviation Mech want!!!Thanks all.

I don’t see any benefit to putting an adapter in to convert the hard drive to sata

Any performance benefits will be outweighed by the losses in the adapter

This has been looked at recently in one of the threads, but the caddy is size restrictive and you would probably loose some of the shock absorption the the caddy provides

The pata 160gb Samsung HM160HC that I recommend is a great performing hard drive

All the other mods are already discussed in threads , with the GPS mod being the most active

We have a lot of talented people here that are constantly improving on the GPS mod

The latest direction on that is making it simple enough for anyone to install it in kit form with no soldering necessary

Teo (ohlip) sent me an exchange cf-29 lid c/w antenna and prewired gps engine module for my cf-29
His latest antenna installation is the best performing, best looking mod around
It still took a couple of hours for me to install it , but it was so simple , and best of all prewired so no danger of shorting wiring out
