The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Thanks Steve. I have silently made use of your install videos and will continue to do so (when or if I get a new ToughBook).

I hope there is a stay of execution for this forum. It has been invaluable to those of us who could never afford a new ToughBook, but could afford a "wanting" ToughBook from eBay or elsewhere.

I agree with the sentiments of other members here that this forum and its members will be sorely missed. It is a unique forum in my view that is very honest, helpful, and non-discriminatory to even idiotic questions. (The type asked by ignorant but sincere new ToughBook owners.)

These size 80 shoes will be hard to fill.

Oh crap this SUCKS... One of the long timers on here has (or did at least) a forum. I want to say it was Toughasnails? I think it is called Tough Book Talks, but I can't find it online. I went through my messages too and can't find any reference. I know wherever it is, I was registered there at some point...

Toughasnails, Rob, Shawn? Somebody speak up!!!

I saw that forum toughbook talk yrs ago. Didn't know if it was active.
If enough people have interest I can setup a forum on customrugged.com

I defiantly would be! I am about to do a web crawl and start grabbing everything in the Panasonic forum here. Like contemplating running out and buying a dedicated PC just for this... I will go through my stash and see if I have anything I can use.

I don't think we can wholesale grab and post it all there, but for sure all of the stickies need their content grabbed and regurgitated.

I don't hack/tweak/build these machines everyday. I probably build 1-2 a year now. So this forum in ABSOLUTELY INVALUABLE to me. I can't do it without all you guys! Well I could, but when I get stuck it would take me a week or two instead of a day or so with help from everyone here. I have been on here for 9yrs!!! Wow. But seriously if you look around there is NOTHING out there except for this forum for Panasonic....

toughbooktalk is partly down as of about a month ago, no one has been able to get ahold of Rob to see what's going on. But the main forum can't be reached but the archive stuff still can.

    http://toughbooktalk.com/public_downloads/

    For example.

I just made a post and a Facebook group, I would like to see a standard Forum setup if possible. But at least for now Facebook group will work and allow us like minded to stay in touch.

    Team,

I will talk to Paul about this. Toughbooktalk.com will remain online and I will get it fixed by the end of the week. Everyone please be patient with me but I will have this fixed by the end of the week.

Not sure about people not getting a hold of me, I've been swamped with work for SURE but I'm always around.

TBH, I haven't focused any time on Toughbooktalk because I've been busy trying to grow my Toughbook business.

    Stay tuned everyone!

    Thanks,
    ROB - Toughbooktalk.com Owner

Yay Rob is still alive!!! Hey did you hop over to the Facebook group Rob? Keep us posted here or there or both or something PLEASE! I am really going to miss this place and didn't want us to all be scattered to the winds. There is a pretty small core of people that really make up the bulk of the knowledge base and help on here.

I am SO SO GLAD I popped back in right when I did. I tend to go dark for periods of time when I am not actively putting together a new Toughtoy. And I don't break my machines often once they are sorted out.

I don't have Facebook because IMO it's a cesspool. Just use that as a temp thing because as Paul and I discussed, Facebook won't work for forward/public facing interests.

I've already got the new server updated and I have the latest version of Apache going. I'm working on converting the SQL database and PHPbb software now. I've got a lot done today to say the least. I wasn't planning on ever doing this so I'll just plugging away at it! :)

    Thanks!

If anyone doesn't want to deal with Facebook.

Option 1: message me and I will give you my personal email address.

Option 2: Either meet up on TBT or here https://efgxt.net/forum/99-panasonic/
That last link is the temp forum user name Reciever was part of putting up

Option 3: looks like r/NotebookReview on reddit is also posting updates.

For user/archive info I think Toughbooktalk is the best bet. It also has Google searchability since it's been around forever. Still making progress on it. I'll post a message when it's up and running fully! :)

I have used this for smaller web sites. Not sure how it would work for this forum.

    Just a FYI.

I could not deal with Facebook without this extension.
This is an excellent add on for your laptop browser. Nothing for smartphones yet.

You can really configure Facebook to your liking. Eliminate lots of things you don't want.

Well I have site sucker up and running on my MacBook. It is quick to setup and I have a fair amount of disk space I can burn to it. I grabbed a desktop from work today, but getting it online will take a lot more effort than the minute or two it took to set this up.

It has been many years since I utilized sitesucker, but I used to use this to grab the MegaSquirt forums and keep a copy offline when I lived in a spot with REALLY bad internet. I would take my laptop to work and let it catch up. Worked pretty good!

The guys setting up those other forums are saving what they can as well, just not sure how much is in the Panasonic section.

Quick update on TBT folks! Will need more time. I've contacted a PHPbb professional and am working on paying him to fix everything. It'll be far faster this way as there are new things I just don't have the time to learn. Give me one more week and I'll still post updates as I can! :)

Rob can you post up a link to what "will be" the front page on TBT? I want to save it so I can keep checking in. I think I registered long ago, but can't find anything...

Good deal Rob! You likely already have a lot of this stuff since you used to almost have parallel ToughBook info if I remember right.

Update everyone: I have hired a PHPbb expert and he's starting migration Monday morning at 9AM. Should be done Monday evening I'd hope! :)

More to come later on this!

@thewanderlustking, sorry I'm not following you sir. http://www.toughbooktalk.com is the main URL and it goes straight to the forums page with no "landing page" :) Which is currently broken only due to MySQL issues (No data has been lost whatsoever, you just don't see anything cuz the database server keeps going down. I have the database though so all good there).

Anyways, once everything is fixed we sort out user logins/password resets issues.

    Thanks everyone for your patience!

Alright, I just wasn't able to find it when I searched a couple days ago. Now it shows up and I get that same landing/front page toughbooktalk.com. Maybe it was just fully offline when I looked, not sure. Lol.
