I am sure we all know about CCleaner, as we have discussed it here in the past. I read an article about GlaryUtilities and thought I would give it a try. I downloaded a trial version and used it on one of my MK3. Let me tell you guys, it works as advertised. It will find things in your system you never knew existed. I love the duplicate files scan and the file allocation. I used CCleaner, then went back and used Glary and it found another slew of crap that CC missed. It has alot more than just cleaning abilities, so give it a try. I am sure you will like it.

Just curious, is this going to be your replacement for CCleaner or will you use it in conjunction with CCleaner?

Well I was kust thinking the other day at how well CCleaner has stood the test of time, but I will give the GlaryUtilities a try.

I like the support for Win7, I have some reservations about using CCleaner for that!

    Thanks!

Wow I gave this a try, over 1,000 problems found. I like it, I was using tweakNow before. Great suggestion!

I tried it and it worked great! After it was done the speed of my 52 was like it had gone from a 5400 rpm to a 7200 rpm HD. I ran it twice to make sure all the trash was out and when I looked over the list of what it had removed (before deletion) it was much more comprehensive than the System Suite I was using.

I was starting to install Gary's when the dialog box prompted to install the pesky Ask.com tool bar and that WAS NOT an option. One either accept the install or forgo the whole thing. Not much of a choice isn't it? Furthermore, this darned Asky has a habit of hijacking my default Firefox... so... you folks think it's still good?

You do NOT have to accept the Ask.com tool bar! Just uncheck the box and hit next and the install will complete. I have used it on three units so far and still think it is great! I did not accept anything other than what was necessary for it to operate.

If you look under "other builds" there is a slim version without the tool bar. And a portable version. Smaller downloads.

I don't want to alarm anyone but I did not have a good experience with the trial version of glaryutil pro. It seemed to work fine at first then there were two registry entries that it detected and cleaned but on rescan these entries came back. After the next boot I started getting popup ads in both opera and Ie8. These were popups relating to registry ccleaning sites. I ran Spybot S&D and it found 3 trojans relating to virtumonde.dll these were fixed by spybotS&D but they came back after a rescan. uninstalled glary did a sytem restore and all was well again. I cannot say definitively that glary caused this but I would suggest anyone that tried this software to check your system with another antiSpyware detector.

I am glad to hear that my suggestion is rewarding so many. I will say that I have a weakness for trying such utilities trying to find that magic one. I think CCleaner is a great program, it's just Glary does so much more. I went ahead and bought it and put the key in. There are more items in there now to do even more if you buy it. I didn't think there was a difference.

I found another utility that gives you tons of info about everything on your computer, even your key codes! It is also free as well. It is called System Explorer.

Malwarebytes is a totally different type of software. Different uses for different problems. It is good though, I run it once a week.

    Hi all,
Does everyone here have the habit of moving files and ritually defrag their harddisks? If yes, what's a good (read free) defrag utility that has a small footprint and does the job quickly without popping nag screens?

I'm presently using the defrag utility that's part of Advanced System Care but wanted to know if there's anything better. Windoze has that, I know, but it crawls...

    Many thanks for any suggestions.

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag. It's free, no nag screens, no extra toolbars.

I was browsing through Cnet downloads and would like an opinion on this Smart Defrag. Anybody?

I am installing it now and the ASK toolbar IS part of the "Accepting License Agreement"..... The other checkbox is for making ASK your homepage.... I already don't like this.

Just click yes to the licensing agreement and no to the toolbar. Then press on and install. It will only install the program, not any of the other crap.

    Again... There were TWO options

    1. ASK toolbar IS part of the "Accepting License Agreement"..... No way around it... Except unchecking it under tools in Properties....

    2. The other checkbox is for making ASK your homepage....

But I am using Google Chrome and the toolbar installed under IE8 which is buggy as hell... So I don't use it. I disabled the toolbar anyway for the times that I DO use IE8.... Not sure about Google Chrome yet.... The jury is still out.

BTW... I noticed nothing different about the speed of my PC... But then I have a semi-fresh install of W7... I was hoping that this would delete a few of the touchscreen registry entries for touchscreen calibration as mine still resets to cablooey with every reboot or logon.

I most likely need to reinstall W7 using just the driver in the other thread instead of the 4-5 others that I tried first....

Re: Malwarebytes, which I use as well.

Unless they have changed it, the "Accepting License Agreement" is for the ASK toolbar.

For Glary Utilities, you uncheck the box(es) on the Ask page -or- download the slim version. No toolbar.
